Quaint little innMy husband, baby and I went to Newport, RI for Labor Day weekend. We stayed at the Americas Cup Inn and were pleasantly surprised at how convenient it was to all of the attractions Newport has to offer. The place is very quaint looking. The room, which was on the first floor had a homey feel to it, although I husband kept complaining that he felt we were in a fishbowl being that we were right on the corner looking out into the street, or rather, he felt that people could look into our room from the street. He also didnt like that the room looked like it was straight out of the 1970s with its decor. I thought it was cute. What I thought they could have improved on was the front desk. We arrived to the hotel only to be greeted by a grumpy man, and then the next night, he was replaced by a grumpy lady. Another thing that could be better was the breakfast. There was a LOT to choose from, but not quality food. Omelets were available on a plate, and there were instructions to microwave them (ew). If they improved the breakfast selection, it would be an awesome place.Rating:5
Great location. Near everything in NewportThis is a basic inn with a very nice breakfast located near everything you might want to see in Newport. Even parking, which you must pay for is right across the street. You wont find a cheaper room in Newport.Rating:3
excellent locationinn is in an excellent location, 1/2 block from thames street. the parking lot across the street is expensive, 25.00 overnight do add that to your price. we got a deluxe room, very large with kitchenette, great for a family. the breakfast was fair, too much choice, fair quality, would do better with less food and improved taste.Rating:5
Great HotelGreat hotel, great location!!! Would recommend this hotel to everyone!!!Rating:5
Quick GetawayLoved the hotel... clean and comfortable. Was right in the thick of things so we could walk everywhere.Rating:5
Great HotelThis hotel was great, will book again. The bed was comfortable, the room very clean with cute decor. Breakfast was a large variety of pastries, fruit, and hot breakfast items. Front desk staff very friendly, spent awhile outlining different attractions and events for us. Parking was okay, 18 dollars overnight but can use lot for 24 hrs. The hotel is near the middle of town, so if you go to bed early, request a room further away from the street, as there was street noise until midnight.Rating:3
Overall-it was a fair hotel...I would not rush back.
Travelers tip on shoppingNot bad.....Rating:5
Great Small Hotel in Great LocationEverything about the hotel was as advertised. In the center of town, easy walking to all the sights. Breakfast Buffet was quite a spread, not the usual continental breakfast. Staff were all friendly and helpful. The room, although small was comfortable and well appointed. We were on the fourth floor which had good points and bad - great view of the harbor but dont get down the stairs and realize you forgot something. I would definitely stay here again. Extremely good value.
Travelers tip on local attractionsThere is always a lot to see and do in Newport but the highlight is to get out on the water and do some sailing. If you go plan on at least one sailing cruise.Rating:4
Americas Cup Inn - convenient and comfortableThis B&B has a GREAT breakfast and is within walking distance to just about everything. It is not as romantic as the B&Bs by the mansion, but if you are looking for convenience, a nice breakfast, and a comfortable room, I highly recommend it. The only downsides, most rooms dont have a TV and you do have to pay for parking unless you find street parking, but well worth the lower cost and convenience.Rating:4
ConfusionParking is at a city lot across the street for an additional $18 a day - there is in & out privileges but the people at the hotel dont explain well enough how it works. People at the lot seemed com-fused too. Overall, nice place but it needs a makeover. You cant beat the location though.
Travelers tip on shoppingHotel is close to everythingRating:5
Excellent hotel right in the middle of all the Newport actionsStaff are very helpful and nice. Breakfast has a lot of choice. Parking acrose street (daily fee required) is very convenient. Price is very reasonable. Will stay next time.Rating:5
Excellent location, comfortable roomThis little hotel is in an excellent location. The place has character and doesnt feel as sterile as the typical hotel chain, which my boyfriend and I found to be pleasant and refreshing. A really good stay!Rating:5
Excellent choiceThe room was spacious and comfortable. No television, but you shouldnt be there for that anyway. Staff friendliness was excellent and accomodating. Location was excellent! A perfect combination for a nice little visit to Newport.Rating:5
Right in the middle of everythingWent for a weekend with my girlfriend and was very happy with Americas Cup Inn. You are right in the middle of many bars, restaurants, shopping etc. and about a 15 minute walk from the Cliff Walk. We stayed outside Newport last summer to save some cash but it was worth the extra money. Hotel is right across the street from the wharves and has a friendly and courteous staff.Rating:5
Great place to stayWe (my husband and I and our two kids) stayed here for a 3 day weekend in August. Fabulous location! Staff is very pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was terrific! The Inn reminds me a lot of places Ive stayed in Europe. Beware, they do not have an elevator and they do have 4 floors or rooms!Rating:5
An Inn Not to be missedClean, accessible to all Newport has to offer.Rating:5
Awesome location, very affordable and comfortable InnFor starters, the Americas Cup Inn is the most centrally located Bed & Breakfast we saw in all of Newport. Upon arrival, we were given a complimentary room upgrade to a suite and were pleasantly surprised. We had a fantastic stay at the Americas Cup Inn. The suite was large and bright, and had every amenity we needed. The price was terrific given the in-town location. The staff (especially Bugsy) was friendly and very helpful with all of our needs. This little Inn is not comparable to the more exclusive hotels in the area, however, if you are looking for an affordable and sweet little historic Inn, the Americas Cup would be a great way to go! Also, take advantage of the public parking across the street - it is only $16 for the length of your stay. We easily walked or took the trolley everywhere we wanted to go.
Travelers tip on diningThe breakfast was great...an assortment of eggs, fresh fruits, pastries.....plenty to fill you until a late lunch!Rating:5
GreatThe room was pretty nice.. The cleaniless was excellent! Overall I was happy.Rating:4
Good value in NewportThis hotel has a great location for walking to all the restaurants and shops in Newport. It is a clean, quiet hotel with good service and a great continental-style breakfast.
Travelers tip on saving a few bucksYou have to pay for municipal parking, right across the street from the hotel. We parked the car for our whole stay to save money and walked or used the Newport buses instead--It was only $16 for three days of parking and very easy.Rating:3
value spotBreakfast was better than expected. Staff was courteous. The other rooms were left open and dirty for two days so it just had a strange feel about it. You cant beat the location and price point if you like to walk instead of drive,Rating:5
Newport GemSuper friendly staff. Homey - extremely comfortable facility. Full breakfast daily. Fantastic central location. Only TV is in game/living room so not a place for TV junkies.
Travelers tip on diningRight over Newport line in Middleton is "Flos Clam Shack". Fantastic - what a find. Written up by everyone and taken twice by hurricanes but worth the mid-afternoon 45 minute wait for the best fried fish, shrimp, oysters, whole bellies, etc. you will ever eat. Helpful Hint: Go upstairs and get a cold beer before going back downstairs to wait in the ordering line.Rating:3
Great locationGreat location, but needs work - peeling wallpaper, dim light bulbs, broken hooks. There was a TV room but there should be TVs in the room. Good breakfast and friendly help.Rating:4
What a breakfast!Great location. Excellent staff. The best breakfast I have ever had included with a hotel stay ever! Standards for cereals, etc. but fiver different kinds of fresh fruit and several homemade baked goods that were better than moms!Rating:1
Not impressedThe only period furniture we saw was in the lobby. Hotel tried to put us into a 10x10 room when we had booked a studio apartment. Apartment had wicker furniture that WAS NOT "antique" and one chair and ottoman did not have supports to hold a sitting person. Air conditioner had a broken knob so it was impossible to maintain a comfortable temp in the room. Our clothes were damp for 3 days. This place was a dump.Rating:5
Americas Cup Inn -- B&B -- Newport, R.INice, old, B&B, located ~ one block back f/the harbor. Location is very good. Hotel is well maintained & staff is eager to please. Room was nice & comfortable. Bathroom was okay, but not great; lighting was too dim. Breakfasts are fantastic! Only quibble is: $15 per day f/parking. @ that price, I think it should be included.
Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stayWe arrived on the weekend when the 19 Tall Ships were in the harbor. Town was over-run w/tourists. Check out: Jamestown (across the harbor), Fort Adams, The Ocean Walk/40 Steps, & The Cornelius Vanderbilt home. We had fun; weather was great!!
