There is a Market Basket grocery store and a Rite Aid pharmacy near by which came in handy for needed items on our way to the beach, shopping, or water park.Friendly
This hotel was easy to find, had nice rooms (beds werent very soft though), rooms must have been recently done (lovely bathrooms), pool was a little small but room for several kids to have fun (chlorine smell was strong), and staff was extremely helpful.
. We will definitely stay here again. The staff was friendly and helpful, both on the phone and in person. The grounds have a dog walking area, and if you are a smoker, plenty of outdoor space to smoke and not disturb others. We liked that we could open our windows and let the cool ocean air in through the night. The beds and pillows were especially comfortable. The room and bathroom were clean and bright. This place was perfect for that.Excellent value for the price
We needed a place to stay one night until we could get into our vacation rental.
. only there for one night so didnt ask for a room change but when told at checkout the staff were apologetic and suprised. we got there late and the smell got worse thorugh the night. the room smelled strongly of pet urine. Not impressed
our room was clearly used for guests with pets.
. We have been coming to Portsmouth for 14 years and will definitely stay at the Anchorage again next year. Rooms were clean, the hotel was quiet, the staff was friendly, and it was in a good driving location.Would definitely stay again
We had a wonderful time - my husband, 10 month old, and 3 year old.
. Next time we go to Portsmouth I am going to pay more and stay downtown near the action. At check out I had to wait 5 minutes for someone to show up at the reception, which you would think at check out time they would have someone there for people. The indoor pool was nice for the kids and us to cool off, its pretty small, but only one other family was in it with us. You save money by being away from downtown Portsmouth, but loose the convenience of not being in walking distance. There is nothing right at the hotel, but a lot is only a 5-10 minute ride away.Central location
The Hotel is right off the highway, which makes it convenient to going other places.
Travelers tip on nightlife
fun city.I would stay there again
everthing i wanted, very quite and comfortable.
Great shoppes and super restaurants!.
Travelers tip on local attractions
Just a short drive to downtown Portsmouth. What we got was a Handicapped room, you could wash your car in the wheelchair shower.when we checked in the men at the desk said they were all sold out of kings (mind you I booked and paid a week earlier) so they told us they had a queen with a nice newly renovated big walk in shower for us... Also, had booked and paid for a king room.Nice but Noisey,OK for one night
Rooms have very nice refigerators and microwaves which is a huge plus! Clean hotel but very noisey after 7am, even with noise cancelling headphones on.
. The closest place just down the street wasnt very good.
Travelers tip on dining
The one disadvantage is that you need to drive 10-15 minutes to find a place to eat dinner. Even my 16-year-old, who was being delivered to a new school, was happy with it.
Convenient to the Kittery discount malls, very clean, unpretentious, not expensive.Very comfortable.
Travelers tip on local attractions
The hotel is close to almost all the trhings to see and do in the area. Room could have used a coffee maker even though there was a continental breakfast. Sink outside of that room, with very little space to place toiletries. Commode and shower in one small and I mean small room.Would stay again
The only complaint we had about the room was the bathroom was very, very small.
. Good clean work out room was just what we needed after lobster, blueberry pie and a long flight. Location is across the street from the end of the off ramp. This hotel gave us a good place to start our drive up the Maine coast to Bar Harbor.Good starting point for Maine vacation
We flew in to Manchester NH from Austin TX.
. Would definitely stay there again. Room was clean, hotel was quiet. But the staff recommended a great cafe downtown which we ended up at almost every morning. The decor is a bit 80s and the continental breakfast is nothing special.Great location, great rates
The hotel is located right off the main freeways and highways(95, 4, & 1), and minutes to downtown Portsmouth.
. Poor breakfast. The room looked new with modern paint/style to bathroom walls and door, but room and bathroom were small with no towel bar beside the pedestal sink (which was immediately to the left of the door), no place for personals. Housekeeping staff very friendly and helpful but the other staff were not very helpful. Not worth it
Rating: 3 for impeccable cleanliness of room.
. However, everything else was very clean. However, one of the beds had a nut in the sheets.Would definitely stay again
Overall we were happy with the hotel.
Convenient location; clean rooms; good service; great price!.
. Some date back to early 1700s. There are a few old cemetaries that are interesting to stroll around in. There are some gardens in town, in Strawberry Banke, that should not be missed. Dont miss the walking tour that leaves from the kiosk by the Church. The food was very good. offeres excellent craft beers (and is associated with Smutty Nose). Portsmouth Brewery on Market St. Lots of good restaurants and coffeed shops.

Downtown Portsmouth, NH is charming. As this was really my only complaint, I would stay here again, if I could get a discounted price for the room. Everything else appeared recently updated, but the carpet always felt damp and was very soiled. The room was pleasantly appointed, but the carpet really needs to be replaced. We were disappointed that there was not in room coffee. These were great, considering we were on a vacation and it was nice to have some refreshments and snacks always available. The room was a bit small, although we managed for one night (I would not want to spend more than a few nights), with refrigerator and microwave. The continental breakfast, was suitably staffed and kept supplied. The amenities offered (pool/hot tub/fitness center/sauna) were great.Good Hotel for the Price
I was able to reserve a room with a king bed through Expedia, which significantly reduced the price from the rack rate, otherwise, I would not have been happy with the hotel.
Nice hotel for the price range
clean, comphy room for two close to Portsmouth and Highway
bring or pick up travel guides of the area so you do not miss something you might enjoy.
Hotel in the middle of great beaches, and shopping, and water parks!.Nice Hotel!
We were pleased with our short stay here.
Would stay there again. Short drive to the historic district.Unexciting but perfectly acceptable hotel
If youre not looking for a boutique B & B, or an upscale chain, this hotel represents very reasonable value for the price.
. I would highly recommend this hotel at a decent price point, as well. Pool area was beautiful along with hot tub. Bathrooms were very bright and clean with all new products.Acceptional for Price
The Hotel was recently renovated - rooms were very good and clean.
THANKS AGAIN!. This positive experience contributed to an overall memorable time in New Hampshire. It was an incredibly comfortable stay after a long drive from NJ.Very Impressed
Thank you for recommending this hotel for our stay in New Hampshire - My family and I were very impressed with the overall cleanliness, appearance and customer service offered.
. No frills, older rooms, but certainly not unclean if that is what you want. You definitely get what you pay for.You get what you pay for!!
I am only recommending due to the cheap price.
Make sure your hotel is not under construction before you book it!. Overall a good stay, it wouldve been great if the construction hours were from say, 10AM to 6PM. I wish Id have known they were renovating the lower level prior to booking, I would have made other arrangements. We were so looking forward to sleeping in every morning, and were so dissappointed on the first morning when were suddenly wakened at 8AM by the sounds of saws and hammers. The continental breakfast was good too. Our 3 year old son loved the indoor pool, a real treat in the middle of February.Unwanted Wake Up Calls
The Anchorage Inn was a great place for our 3 day stay in Portsmouth, while visiting friends and family throughout New England.
. Id only stay here again if I had a room on the top floor so no one would be walking around over my head because it is very noisy. When it was time to check out we were told that normally we would have to pay for the second room but since the night clerk hadnt told us that, we wouldnt be charged. At 5 AM my daughter moved, but I chose not to as I had planned to get up at 7 AM anyway. Finally at 3 AM we called the front desk and they informed us that the people were just night owls; however, they said if the noise continued tthey had one king room we could move to.Noise problems
Our room was fine; however, whoever was in the room above us walked back and forth across the floor all night long.
.Squeaky floors but comfortable
For Skybus people, this is a perfect place for letting the kids swim indoors and burn some energy.
Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stay
Close to the airport and close to downtown Portsmouth-shopping and the seacoast. The staff was helpful and friendly and I would definitely stay there again.Definitely would recommend and would book again
The room was great; very clean, great location; close to town and airport.
