. Overall it was a great hotel. THe queen size beds seemed more like full size beds so it was a little small for my husband and me.Nice Hotel
The hotel was nice, clean and the staff were friendly.
. Great location, and decent rooms.Good deal
Cant beat it for the price.
. I would stay there again. The hotel is well located if you want to explore both the north and south coasts. The only disappointment was that the lounge and restaurant never seemed to be open while we were there.Very comfortable and centrally located
Our room was clean and comfortable.
.Explore the island
regarding the price a really good deal, hospitable staff, right by the beach, good if you want to explore the island - both directions about the same driving time to the end of the road, hotel needs some maintenance work and common areas would definitely profit from decorational work, good breakfast, no late evening bar, main restaurant needs rearrangement to become more inviting and cozy
Travelers tip on saving a few bucks
If you go out a lot and are looking for a place to relax at night and have a view of the sea /beach the Aston Aloha is a very good deal.
. Recent rains left plenty of puddles to enjoy, got soaked through to the underwear. ATV tour was a blast. Did evening drive, saw sunset over the bay, a huge deep sea turtle, Kilauea Lighthouse and the picturesque valley. Dont miss the north side -- Hanalei Bay & Princeville. Poipu nice. Waimea Canyon awesome.

Kauai is beautiful, see all of it. I guess everyone is doing whatever they can to make it these days. Hostess in the dining room hawked CDs to the customers. Beach location would have been wonderful had not the recent storm caused the area waters to be extremely muddy and rough, management cant help that. Hashbrowns at breakfast were a deep-fried slab like you get at McDonalds. Finally managed it. Slider so hard to open we decided it wasnt meant to until we saw the one next door open. Room appeared clean but smelled like a combination of urine & mold. Frog belly up one day, not removed for several hours. No koi in koi pond. However, the water features both inside & out were dry or stagant. Pool area OK, no complaints. Requested extra linens & they were delivered right away with a huge smile.Feels like its almost out of business
Staff always courteous & helpful.
. Luckily we were only there for one night, but we would certainly not stay there again. However, the hotel was in very poor repair, there were broken lounge chairs by the pool, the paint in the rooms and hallways was chipped, and the room smelled of urine. We chose this hotel because it was centrally located. Not Impressed at ALL
Our family needed a place to stay between condo weeks.
. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would go back again to the Aston. We felt that the common walkways could use daily vacuuming and repair work needs to be done near the pond (leaking overpass). The room was very clean and comfortable. Great location (near the beach and airport), good amenities, and very friendly staff.A Great Place To Stay
We were welcomed with aloha at the Aston Aloha Beach in Kapaa.
. Close to town, shops and the beach."a bed"! Clean, quiet, and like I said convenient... Its reasonably priced and has exactly what you need after a day of adventuring.Convenient
If you are not one to stay in your room your entire stay this is the place for you.

Blue dolphin cruise is a must they will take you up the Napali coast to snorkle and see the caves, they have a great crew a must. I think this was a great hotel with a great location, if your want all the creature comforts of home, then just stay home and stop pissin and moanin. Hopefully Kauaui will keep them at bay, although I was sad to see a Wal-mart there, I only spent my money with the local merchants in thier small towns. Ive seen Oahu go from what Kauai is now to a over developed over populated island that I would never go to, with a population of over a million people, thanks to the greedy giant corperations building Wal-marts, Targets, etc. It may not have all the bells and whistles as some of the other over priced pay for the name hotels(just so you can brag to your neighbors)but is takes you back in time to when Hawaii was a place to go to get away from the big cities where you came from. We really enjoyed ourselves , stayed in the cottage rooms, had a patio overlooking the park and beach.True Hawaiian ambiance experiance!
Although this is a older hotel, it brings you back to the real Hawaii when times were slower and you were there to just relax and stroll down to the beach and enjoy the sand and surf.
. I will say the staff we did encounter was extremely polite and helpful. Very sad, this could be a really nice place with a little TLC. The larger swimming pool was constantly filled with ppl from the local beach hopping the fence and getting in. Whole complex has a rundown feel along with strong urine smells in all of the hallways. They were not cleaned with next maids visit either. we were able to look at 3 rooms before we found one that wasnt dark and dismal, it had a beautiful view of the ocean that you could not see because of the dirty INSIDE of the glass door.Needs work
We stayed here just for 2 nights at the end of our vacation, the actual buildings themselves are very old and worn, common areas not clean at all.
. Food prices are a little higher than on mainland but not outrageous - grocery store is the best place to reduce food expenses. You will safe almost 30% on everything by getting same prices as locals.

If you choose to make sandwiches and buy snacks it is best to visit Safeway grocery store and sign up for membership at the customer service desk. Wall mounted hairdryer in the bathroom. The hotel does not provide hair conditioner. We had one breakfast at the hotel and it was poor. There is a little fridge in each room - perfect for chilling your drinks or storing small quantities food. Parking is free. Another very nice feature that comes with age is mature landscaping with big Plumeria trees that were shedding its blooms that occasionally fall into the pools. This is an older resort and there could be additional updates made but they are purely esthetic and nothing that would concern the comfort of your stay. Rooms have new doors; no noise from the neighbors during our stay. The beds were made and room clean and good-looking on a daily basis. The hotel participates in the program to save water and energy. The quality of housekeeping is very good. The staff is courteous and kind. Additional updates are mosaic tile lining both pools and spa, and a very stylish and airy reception area with free Internet access. The hotel has been updated with renovated rooms, comfortable beds, blackout window treatments and granite countertops in the bathrooms. The central location provides easy access to both south and north shores. It is also on the eastern side of the island and magnificent place for watching sunrises. This is a safe beach for the children and popular with locals who are very nice and accepting of tourists.Fantastic place - great stay
Aloha Beach is located just above the Lydgate Beach Park, one of the best and safest beaches on the island.
. Use a guidebook to find hidden treasures (we used The Ultimate Guidebook to Kauai and couldnt have been happier).
Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stay
This hotel is on the east shore, which is helpful for getting around the island, and I would kind of split up the different things you want to do into their locations to see what makes the most sense to do together. We have stayed at this hotel twice just because it was so ideal and affordable; if we go back to Kauai again, we are going to stay there again without even looking into other places. The staff worked hard to make sure that we were accommodated-there had been problems with the type of beds that were supposed to fit in the room we booked and we got a free upgrade just to ensure that we would be comfortable there. There are two pools and it has tennis courts too. The beach it is by (Lydgate) is one of the best places for snorkeling on the island.steps from the beach; extremely helpful service
The hotel couldnt have been in a better setting, our room was literally steps from the beach...Wonderful location.
. Breakfast at the restaurant is not a good deal. Service was nice. We noticed that rooms were remodeled, new doors, new furniture.Nice hotel, great value
We stayed here 5 years ago.
. Traffic can be bad, however, as there is only 1 main road around the island. There are plenty of good places to eat nearby + grocery, drug stores & a major shopping center all within minutes.
Travelers tip on local attractions
I like the location because its only 10 minutes away from the airport but just outside the busy town of Lihue. In any case the service is still good & the hotel a nice, quiet place in a good location at a low rate. But the hotel apparently has been forced to cut back on various amenities (no microwaves in any rooms; wi-fi was not available in our room & connection was sporadic in the hotel lobby; full breakfast buffet at the hotel restaurant has been cut down to a continental breakfast only).Downturn in economy has hurt this hotel
Had stayed here twice before & was looking forward to a third stay.
. The beach with snorkeling area is very convenient and fun. Staff was very friendly. We would stay here again.Great stay
Great experience.
. Lots of steps up and down with your luggage. The elevator was broken so dont stay there if you need that. You could eat close by at the Coconut Grove so that was okay. The restuarant had a very small menu and was pricey. The hotel had limited staff and it showed. It was next to a park for swimming and snorkeling.
We picked this hotel because of the great location.Good location.
Almost got reared ended coming out of the hotel with cars coming at you at over 60 mph!.
Travelers tip
I would not recommend driving during the islands "rush hour" (8am and 4:30pm)on a one-lane highway. The hotel is located close to the best municipal golf course and major shopping complex and restaurants.Pay for what you get!
For the affordable price, its ok - rooms clean and pretty quiet in seclusion.
. CLOSE TO THE BEACH.IT WAS ALRIGHT
THE PLACE WAS VERY QUIET.
. The scenery is awesome.
Travelers tip on recreational activities
If you have the time, take the trip out to the Na Pali coast. This hotel is located adjacent to a nice family beach with lifeguards on duty. Hotel food was just ok, eat out at one of the many restaurants in the area instead. They placed us in a room overlooking the pool, however the sliding glass door could not open for fresh air.Good location
Hotel had difficulty finding our reservation.
.
Travelers tip on dining
Dinner was limited and overpriced, so go to Mema Thai or Coconut Grove Center. Overall I was satisfied and would return. Wireless access in lobby only, which had few outlets. The staff was friendly. The hallways need more vacuuming and the elevator was broken. It needs a TV and new furniture. The bar was so sad and poorly decorated that no one used it. The breakfasts and buffet were quite good if slightly pricey. The grounds and views are beautiful, both pools and hot tub were immaculate, and the pool snackbar grill is open for cheap lunches and alcohol until 4:30, but should extend to 5. Separate shower/toilet, but the shower was small, even for my petite size. The ocean view room was very clean and comfortable with marble vanity and matching tiki and island-style décor.Good value for price
This should be listed as 3 stars and could get more with a minimum of updating and attention.
. Only complaint was they were stingy on the shampoo and did not provide conditioner, as other hotels have. Great value for the price. The rooms are a little dated and show their age, but how much time do you spend in your room! Nice big restaurant. The grounds are well kept and the staff is very friendly and accommodating. It is bordering a beautiful park and the river, so no matter what room you have you can walk to the park and along the beach.Nice place to stay
The location is the high point of this hotel.
. But overall nice close to cool little beach park.Good hotel for money
nice hotel liked my stay at islander on the beach better.
Travelers tip on recreational activities
Great photography options, fishing, snorkeling, sunning on beach, swimming with life guard protection, walkways, playground, picnicking facilities, and close to shopping!. Special features of cockadoodling roosters and croaking cane toads was an added fun aspect that we greatly enjoyed! We returned at the end of our trip to enjoy it all again! Found the walkway and glimpses of the island life to be fascinating! The lagoon at adjacent Lydgate Park with a variety of fish was captivating. Outside of our window was ocean, outside of our door was immediate access to the pool area- we loved that! Everyone was friendly and accomodating.Excellent ocean view and ability to hear calming ocean waves
We were first impressed with the amazing beach scenes and hearing the ocean waves.
. The hike there can be treacherous if its been raining but it just adds to the fun and adventure. The canoe trip which can be booked at the Shell Garage is such great fun - you get to go at your own pace and swimming in the waterfall is such good fun.
Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stay
Recommend a plate lunch at the Fish Market in Poipu and a plate lunch at Pono Market in Kapaa. However, our sheets were not changed once in the 6 nights that we stayed there and there were no balconies on any of the rooms to enjoy the views. It was cheap so I guess you get what you pay for. The hotel is rather shabby looking and the service is very mediocre.Cheap and cheerful and good location
Good location.
. It not only cost effective, but you have the leisure of coming and going at and in your time frame. I would recommend to pick up brochures at the airport and do your own site-seeing.

There are a lot of things to do. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The staff was terrific.Kauai, Hawaii Vacation
The hotel was great.
