. But over all we (my mother & I) really enjoyed our stay. Even though it had new wall paper some of it was peeling and the exhaust fan came on when the bathroom light was turned on. There is also a safe in the room. I selected the California because refrigerators are standard in their rooms along with hair dryers, irons & ironing boards. Will stay there again
The hotel was nice, room was great.
Couldnt believe how great this hotel was for the price!. The 24 hour restaurant serves the lowest priced food in Vegas, but its actually pretty good. The employees were very helpful.Wonderful Hotel
The rooms were really very nice.
. I would recommend and will stay again at this hotel. Only down fall was there was no AC in the room, but there was a central fan that kept the room comfortable in the 100+ degree weather outside. The restaurants were excellent and good prices.Going back
Over all the hotel was pleasant and well kept.
Just watch that first step getting out of the tub!. I would recommend this hotel to others, it was relaxing and unpretentious, the staff was friendly, and had a very good restaurant and snack bar. Although the rooms are all non-smoking, the smoke still managed to find its way in through the vents.Aloha away from Home
It was an excellent hotel for the price.
Good one
excelent.
. Clean rooms, comfortable beds, and one of the best rates in Las Vegas.Modest, clean rooms at a great price
This was a great place to stay.
.Nice value
nice value, and Main Street hotel is attached to the California, nice buffet.
. I know that this is not on the main strip but it is in a location where if you want to sleep you can. All of the staff were willing to help and very polite and courteous.Cant wait to go back
Having lived in Hawaii for 3 years, this hotel brought back fond memories and generated a longing to visit the island again.
. Steak house & Pasta restaurant more expensive but definately worth it! Overall very impressed with accomodations given the value / pricing. Food at cafe restaurant acceptable given pricing.very relaxing and great for cooling off in the 100+ degree days.... Pool area hardly used at all. Room was comfortable and clean.A Definate Yes
Enjoyed the convenient location to the gaming and activities of Fremont street without the noise or crowds of the larger hotels.
. I will stay there again. Loved my stay there, way cheaper than the strip, the food is also cheaper downtown, and the trolley is very convenient for a $3 ticket to get to the strip.Cant go wrong with The Cal!
Nice place, updated rooms, clean and comfortable, right next to Binions and other hot spots on Freemont St.
Good
ok
ok.
. After several calls (it was their lunch time) they came around. They addressed the problem very slowly.) We got the charger back after 45 minutes. This would have been okay except they took our things left on the night stand (phone charger, air sick pill, etc. We had late check out but the cleaner came in and cleaned with our things still in the room.Good for the price
Everything went well till the last day.
. the restaurant was great and others were within walking distance. I will stay there again. it was a very relaxed atmosphere and off the strip, so no hustle and bustle. the rooms were clean and comfortable.Economical and restful
this was a great place to stay.
check in station excellent, friendly but for the check out clerk wasnt to freindly, not much helpful, but will return in the future. Casino staff very helpful, friendly. would stay there again, which i did stay several times in the past. Really liked room service 150%. Ask and we recived what asked for.Really enjoyed my stay at California Hotel

Travelers tip on dining
Late night specials in the cafe after 11pm . It seems like the second home for Hawaiians. While not as big as rooms at some of the hotels along the strip, this one is fine, if a little dated. Room was clean, little older. Not as congested as the Strip.Works for wandering
Downtown hotel, next to Fremont Street.
Travelers tip on nightlife
The Fremont Street Experience is within walking distance from the Hotel so theres lots of free entertainment!!!. If I have to mention any kind of "complaint" it would be that we werent given a door hanger that says to not come in and clean the room - but I dont think that counts as a complaint. Needless to say we were very satisfied with the Hotel and cleanliness. We initially chose the Fremont Hotel but they were out of rooms.Great Hotel Choice!
We stayed at the California Hotel over Memorial Day weekend 2009.
.Nice low key hotel
Central to all the good places without the hype and cost of LasVgas.
. Loved the local style restaurants too.very spacious...Very satisfied
We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the room.
. Room service for breakfast is great if you dont like crowds and was fairly inexpensive.
Travelers tip on dining
The Pasta Pirate has good food. Nice, inexpensive getaway. The room service breakfast was very good and the food was hot. The California is our new favorite place to stay. My husband really liked it too and we are going back 5/22 if that tells you anything. We dont live in the bathroom, so we did not let that ruin our stay. Other than that, everything about our stay was perfect. And the tub faucet was loose from the wall-I was afraid one of us would pull it out or break it when turning it on to shower. Where the shower meets the wall, the wallpaper was coming apart slightly from the wall. The only bad thing about our room was the bathroom. The bed was comfortable and linens clean. Our room was clean, and thanks to other reviews we knew what to expect. The check-in was fast and friendly.Going back again!
We stayed 5/8.
. Would stay there again. The price was great. The room was very clean and more than adequate.Friendly and Inexpensive
Everyone we came in contact with was very friendly.
. Overall very good. Room was clean and when I asked for extra linens, I got them immediately. Fast check in services.Impressed
I was very impressed.
. I would never bring my family back here again, the service was extremely poor and the hotel needs major updating. We booked this hotel because we got an okay deal on expedia and because of all the great reviews and the photos looked decent. It was a bit dusty and smoky too, which posed a problem due to the fact that we had out 10 month old daughter and my husband is asthmatic. It was clean, BUT not spotless. We were in room 2139. To get to our room we had to go the west tower elevators and pass through the casino, it was extremely smoky and we found it very difficult to breathe, I wouldnt recommend this place if you have young children, unless you dont mind them inhaling the second hand smoke, but if you do mind I suggest hotels on the strip, we couldnt smell the smoke there. We had passed by several employees and none of them were smiling or saying hello, no aloha service here!!! I have to say the check in process was fast but I found absolutely no hint of customer service throughout our stay at this hotel. and weve been sitting in the car) we finally found parking and we ended up on the rooftop.A. When we got there the self parking was terrible, we had to wait about 15 minutes (which is too long considering we had a screaming infant and we drove from L. You could see the hotel when you exit the 515 fwy.NO ALOHA SERVICE AS CLAIMED!!!!!!!!!!
My husband, myself and our 10 month old daughter stayed in the California Hotel for two nights, we were in town for family.
. Overall, I give it a 4 out of 5. It has a smaller gambling area but is nicely divided between table games and slots. Its less than 1 block from the Freemont Experience which makes the location nice. The room was clean and comfortable and the pool on the 3rd floor deck was great for a little sun tanning. The California Hotel overall was not a bad place to stay.
This was my first time staying in Vegas off the strip. Not bad for the price.
Only 15 minutes from the strip, its a good hotel if youre looking for value!. The cafe downstairs is very cheap and its actually not bad at all. Not like that mattered much since the hotel only gives you about 10 channels, but its nicer nonetheless. The Califronia is actually much better with a cleaner more updated look, which also came with a flat screen TV.Great Value!
We stayed at Main Street last year, and I expected The Califronia to be the same since they were equivalent in price.
