quiet and spacious, good valueFully equipped kitchen - able to cook meals in and save money. Easy to find. Free parking. Newly renovated, but carpet was stained and spotted. No daily maid service. Good value for families.
Travelers tip on recreational activitiesKauai Backcountry Adventures - tubing down the irrigation ditch - great fun! Next time will try the Zip Line!Rating:4
Lovely locationWe have stayed at the Kiahuna Plantation for many years. We were a little miffed that they did not provide daily maid service and fresh towels as they have on all our prior visits. Having to pay $10 extra each time you wanted fresh towels was unexpected. Also, they scheduled a pest control service one day during our stay which wasnt particularly welcomed. We love the location of the condo and the lovely grounds. The condo was comfortable.Rating:4
Would stay here againHad a great stay here. The pool was a little out of the way but the grounds were beautiful. Was able to safe a little money with the full kitchen was able to fix meals here. Will be back.
Travelers tip on saving a few bucksLocal Costco and Walmart safed a lot of money on meals.Rating:2
not impressed with the roomThe outside property was beautiful but not the rooms. Saw a cockroach (a flying one!).Rating:5
relaxing and comfortableA little hard to find, the directions were bad, but well worth it. Very clean, close to the beach. Everything available that you need to feel right at home
Travelers tip on diningThe Smiths Tropical Paradise Luau was great. The Gaylords sunday brunch was also well worth it.Rating:5
This is the best place in Kauai! We stayed at one of the condos for a week and it was by far one of the best places we have ever stayed! We had a garden view and got a free upgrade to a deluxe garden view. The condo was spectacular and a very short walk to the beach. We loved having the kitchen, as we were in and out all the time. We also used the grill once too. We didnt use the pool so cant comment on that (its across the street). The condos are walking distance to the shops and restaurants across the street. Overall, this was an amazing trip!Rating:4
Almost Completely Satisfied. The grounds were beautiful, the best place on the island to snorkel was right outside our nicely furnished and packed with lots of convenient items to use(boogies boards, beach umbrella beach chairs ice chest ect.) condo. The beach itself was beautiful with palm trees,a great swimming beach and lots of sand.Actually it was our favorite beach on all of Kauai, and we visited and spent time at alot of beaches but kept going back to ours. The Plantation restaurant was not too expensive, had a great atmosphere and the food was delicious. My only complaint was that we were suppose to recieve a complete maid service on our 4th day and did not, we just recieved the basic everyday change towels and make beds service and when we called to ask if they had done the complete job they lied and said that they did when it was obvious that they hadnt. They did it the next day but would have gotten away with not doing it if I hadnt complained. That one thing left a bad impression with me about the Castle Resorts. But if that had not happened it would have been perfect.
Travelers tip on recreational activitiesBubbas burgers was the best hamburger Ive had next to In n Out burgers in california. And tunnels beach was also a good beach to hang out and snorkel at, we saw turtles, but it is also very hot.Hike down to Wailua Falls, and Hike napali coast, it was awesome!Rating:4
Not too Bad....lots of roosters. If you dont like noisy roosters then stay elsewhere. We are early risers so it only took a day to get use the super noisy animals.Rating:4
Very nice and reasonably pricedWe loved the convenience of having a kitchen in our condo. We didnt have an ocean view, although that was an option, but it was just a short stroll to the beach. Overall the grounds were beautiful and well maintained and every staff member that we met was super friendly and helpful. We are definately planning a trip back!
Travelers tip on diningGo to Keokies for their Kalua pork sandwich.Rating:4
The 4th timeThis was out 4th return trip to Kiahuna and Kauai. We were happy to see that the resort has not changed much since out last visit which was pre Iniki in 1990. We were saddened to see all the new construction and noise around the Poipu area as that takes away from the natual beauty of Kauai. No doubt local residents feel the same way. The 2 bedroom unit was spacious for our family of four which included two teens. The beach and ocean were great as always. Get in the water early and often. Sea turtles were seen swimming by every day. The pool area was relaxing but the construction of the new townhomes right next door was a disapointment. We will be back but after the building has stopped.
Travelers tip on recreational activitiesHolo Holo boat tours off the coast are not to be missed as is a Helicopter ride with Inter-Island. Go out of Port Allen airport not Lihue.Rating:5
Great for familiesWe traveled with our 3 and 5 year old boys and had a great time. It was really nice to be able to BBQ at the condo on their time schedule until we were over our jet lag. The pool was also great for kids with a shallow sandy bottom area and a small waterslide. The beach had a pretty big south swell and wasnt safe for our young swimmers, but I bet its great in the winter when the island gets the north swell on the other side.Rating:5
Looking forward to next year!!Had a fantastic time loved the hotelRating:3
Beautiful beach, old hotelRoom we stayed in, had not been updated in sometime. The pool was across the street from the hotel and very inconvient to get to. Long walk to get to beach also.Rating:4
Beautiful location needs updatingVery kid friendly and love the decor although it did need some updating. Pool is great but it is across the street from the hotel on a busy street. Its across the street from the poipu shopping village so getting some food is easy.Rating:4
Will go backIf you like to prepare your oun meals al the utensils are provided, along with all cleaning soaps. We stayed ten days and the trash was only picked up once and housekeeping came after the fifth day to change the linens and towels. I called the office and was told thats when we were scheduled. the place does not have air conditioning, but the fans were adequate. We love the Hawaiian atmospere and convience to shops and restraunts and will stay there again. Check the latest Ultimate Kauai Guidebook and eat were the "locals" eat. Shop for souvenors at K-Marts they have the best priced section and prices on the island. Also the best Lauau is Smiths get reservations a week in advance or on the net, but only use their web site.Rating:3
Kiahuna is not great, not badPros: The room is a one-bedbroom condo that is privately owned. The owner left items in the room that made our stay nicer, such as books, a CD player with Hawaiian music, a wine opener, and stuff for the beach. The pool across the street is fantastic and not crowded. Cons: We were excited for staying at this private ocean view room on the beach, but it was only an ocean view to the extent that if you look very closely, you can see a bit of sand if you through a few trees in the distance. Also, the bed was old and creaky and really needed to be replaced. This is supposed to be a decent hotel and the bed felt like a motel. All in all, not a bad experience, but I was hoping for something more unique and personal. It really didnt feel like a plantation.
Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stayI recommend staying closer to the eastern part of the island in an area such as Kapaa. Those areas have less of a touristy feel and are closer to the North shore which has the best beaches. In the Poipu area, go snorkeling right next the the Beach House restaurant in Lawai, its fantastic! We enjoyed Keokis Paradise in the Poipu shopping village and Tomkats (great drink specials and not too pricy).Rating:5
Highly recommendWe saw this hotel 25 years ago and always wanted to stay there; we were not disappointed. The rooms were great with a beautiful view. Would recommend getting closer to the beach away from the road as it was noisy at times. But the beach and grounds were immaculate. We will go back again.
Travelers tip on diningThe best or one of the best dinners we had was at the old Plantation Gardens at the hotel. Sushi at the Hyatt down the road was a great, and a perfect place for a evening cocktail at sunset. Beautiful!Rating:5
Ocean view was worth itNice 1 bedroom with beautiful view of hotels lagoon and the ocean beyond. Decor was a little dated - 1990s rattan and colors. Master bed was very comfortable. We had a corner unit, three flights up - no elevator. The trade winds made our stay very comfortable. We also enjoyed the sounds of the birds and frogs, though sometimes it woke us up. The pool was ok, had a medium size slide, my kids had fun there, but we were here for the beaches. We watched the free Hula Show at the shopping center across the street. My kids got to see what the island dances were about, without the huge investment. We hiked the Kalalau Trail to the first beach, 2 1/2 hours one way, and found the view very beautiful, but the hike very strenuous, especially coming back! The beach is not recommended for swimming, too dangerous. Favorite snorkeling beach: AniniRating:5
Very nice and very comfortable!Nice grounds! Wish condo had stack washer and dryer. Need better and consistent BBQ areas. Would be nice to have a true pool instead of a kid pool.Rating:3
Good affordable family hotelHotel is in nice location in south part of Kauai at Poipu Beach. Very affordable and perfect for families. Nice beach, but rocky bottom as opposed to Hanalei Beach on the North Side of the Island. Condo style room with full kitchen, large grassy areas for the kids or lounging. Barbecues on site. We never saw the pool while we were there, it was across the street. No air conditioning, which is usually OK except on the very humid days, but usually the fan is sufficient. Next to the Sheraton, where we did a Luau and a massage.Rating:5
beautiful grounds, and we loved sitting at the beach each night and watching the sunset!Close the plantation blinds at night because the local birds are early risers! The condo was great and the beach/grass area was even better. Karen Barns, the Expedia Concierge was very helpful in booking our adventures for us. We had a wonderful time, and would definitely return. Mahalo
Travelers tip on local attractionsWe loved the zipline. We went to Princeville Ziplines, they were great. The swimming hole and lunch were terrific! Dont miss the Puka Dogs in the shopping center across from the condos. We also enjoyed the atmosphere at Keikos Restaurant.Rating:5
Good experienceCastle Kiahuna Plantation & Beach Bungalows made for a very great, comfortable home base while we were exploring Kauai. Its a short walk from their sports club, tennis, and a great pool, as well as a short walk down to the beautiful Poipu Beach. Although the apartment decor is a bit outdated, all appliances and furniture are clean and comfortable. Would recommend.
Travelers tip on local attractionsTake a short drive to Salt Pond Beach. Its beautiful and if you like to snorkel near the beach there were more visible fish than at Poipu.Rating:5
Castle Kiahuna Plantation - April 26 - May 2What a great condo! It exceeded our expectations! We stayed in room 336 on the third floor & had a beachview (one upgrade). The condo was clean & perfect! The condo supplied us with a beach umbrella, chair & cooler and it was great! I highly recommend this hotel and this particular condo! It was on an end unit & very quiet! Close to diving & central to the entire island too!
Travelers tip on local attractionsLocal snorkling at Acid Drops right around the corner; local dive shops are great too!Rating:3
Family-friendly....not necessarily a good thing! No A/C means windows are open all night...nice for ocean breezes; not nice for "quiet enjoyment", especially if adjoining units have guests with infants/small children that enjoy screaming at 5am and hollering when they walk past your unit. (I would recommend an upper unit to alleviate that). Units are spacious, updated and have a lot of nice amenities (highspeed internet, microwave, dishwasher) and decent gas grills on the well-manicured grounds. Front desk staff not all that helpful. Suggestions to improve comfort: - A/C for better sound-proofing - Kid-free condo units (yea, am sure thatll go over well!) - Housekeeping service might vacuum once in a while.Rating:5
Beautiful RoomWent to Kiahuna Plantation for our 35th Anniversary. The room we originally booked bldg.42 was not acceptable-we upgraded to unit 61 for a small fee per day and LOVED it. The garden view we had with the lanai was perfect for our morning coffee and afternoon Mai Tai.. Great beach and a plus of towels and beach chairs that were complimentary. We will definitely go back....We also received a complimentary bottle of champagne as an anniversary gift from the hotel-very nice...
Travelers tip on diningShrimp Station-Puka Dog-Keoikos all yummy!!!!
