As close to the ocean as you can get

We loved this location! The surf was right below our balcony! We went to sleep to the sound of the ocean. No airconditioning in the ocean front locations, but the balcony doors open up and the wind blows right thru. It was wonderful! Would go back in a heartbeat! There are different size units you can rent, so perfect for families! It includes a full kitchen and washer and dryer in the ocean front rooms!

There are units to accommodate families with several children. Just watch the small ones on the balconies!

    Nice place

The condo was nice and tidy, equipped with everything needed, including free wireless internet access. Our condo had mountain view and faced a frequented road. Thus, the level of noise was quite high.

sewer repair, jack hammers under our rooms.

The rooms were very nice but, it can’t make up for the fact that they should not have rented them at all that week of a planned sewer repair. Jack hammers were under one of our second floor condos and it was uninhabital from 8-4 M-F. Poor form. Could say we had a nice restful Hawaiian vacation.

Great location but rooms need lots of TLC

We stayed in a back building three days, next to the noisy birds. There was little breeze (August 2009), and the room needed major renovating. The rooms are at least 30 yrs old with original bathtubs, cabinetry, and dingy carpet. We moved on the fourth day to a partial ocean view room in building 6 and even though it was closer to the road noise, the view was spectacular and the breeze was 10 times better. This general Kailua-Kona area is most definitely the place to be for swimming, snorkeling and eating. Would not stay here again unless the rooms are renovated. If you are short on cash, this place is cost effective.

Travelers tip on saving a few bucks

Food will generally cost you $10 to $20 each. Drink water and try splitting meals. We shopped at the grocery store for breakfast, drink and snack items. Don’t shop at the shops on Wed. in Kailea-Kona - that’s when the cruise people come in. Off days are bargain days. Bubba Gump has great portions and a huge sampler platter. Bongo Bens is great. Candy bars are a bargain on the island. Try roadside stands. Don’t pay to see waterfalls, there are plenty to see for free.

For low budget travelers who want to hang with the native Islanders.

Very disapointed upon arrival. No AC in ocean front rooms. Humidity was through the roof when we arrived and room was unbearable. Sat there soaking wet and bailed to another location. To stay here you need to dump your stuff and head to the beach or someplace else that you are happy with. If your looking for a comfortable place to sit and chill a little and take in the view go elsewhere. This is a crash pad for the very active folks who do not need a lot of comfort and are looking to take in the sites 16 hours a day and sleep like a log the other 8. If your a tent camper you may find this place suitable. Also it seemed the locals hang on the south end of this shore resort to surf.

This was our first Hawai’i experience. We learned that if you have a family of five and need a two bedroom setup (condo suite) be prepared to spend at least $550-600 per night for reasonably comfortable and somewhat private accomodations on the Island. We also learned this cost is well worth it. Kona and the rest of the Island is the most beautiful and fun place we have ever been by far.

    Good location for visit.

Condo located out of the main part of Kona but was easy to get to and leave to the main travel roads. It has units on both sides of the road but this was not a problem. Staff were all friendly, knowledgable and helpful. Condo show wear and tear of time but were very acceptable in all areas. Our unit was maintained satisfactorily and was very clean.

Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stay

Upon arrival in the Kona airport pickup two or three of the booklets available in the arrival part of the airport. They have good maps of all areas for getting around and seeing the sights. Also talk with salespoeple in the stores for ideas where to go. There are stores such as Costco, Wallmart, Safeway and Target all in the Kona area.

    Love this place

This is the second time I’ve stayed here. Love this place. Had a hard time leaving. Very friendly staff. Room and surrounding grounds were clean and well maintained. Two times I have stayed here I had partial ocean view and my room was across the street from the ocean but I could hear and see the ocean through open glass patio door when cars weren’t passing.

    Simple, clean, affordable

Very simple, no frills, no unnecessary expense place to stay. No daily maid service, but they provide clean towels every four days and our apartment had a full kitchen with all the pots, utensils and dinnerware you could possibly need. The building is not brand-new, but the room was very clean. I have read other people’s reviews about finding bugs in their room. Keep in mind, this hotel is located on an island in the North Pacific and many people keep their doors and windows open. That said, they do regularly treat for indoor insects, but I’ve had many trips to the islands an no hotel was ever completely free from an extra harmless roommate or two. No, there were no roaches, but a beautiful Gold Dust Day Gecko greeted us every morning outside our door.

    Great hotel, great customer service!

I was impressed with the new beautiful, modern, decor and the great customer service of this hotel. From the moment I walked in the door, they were eager to make me welcome and comfortable. The hotel is easy walking distance (3 blocks) from the beach and the main shopping strip by Waikiki. The pool is small, but adequate, the fitness room had great equipment and the continental breakfast was good. They had waffles, toast, cereals, fruit, juices, coffee, muffins, and hard boiled eggs. The only thing I longed for was a bagel and cream cheese, but you can’t have everything!

Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stay

I recommend the mountain view. The courtyard view will have you staring into someone else’s hotel room! If you are renting a car, the valet parking is worth it. It is hard to find parking! If you are staying in the Waikiki area, I would recommend taking a shuttle from the airport and walking the whole time.

Perfect for a getaway when you don’t need to spend much time in the hotel room. The kitchen was great for breakfast and to pack a cooler for lunch.

The South Point is a must. It is a drive - but worth it.

    just adequate

so called "mountain view" rooms don’t really have much of the view since the only window facing the mountains is in the bedroom. The balcony faces the courtyard. No central A/C, just a noisy wall unit mounted in the living room. consequently, the bedroom is always hot and one can sleep in the living room only wearing the earplugs (because of the noise). There’s no smoking - even on the balcony; for a one week stay you get a single visit from the housekeeping. Otherwise, full kitchen certainly helps and the location is great (away from the noise and traffic, yet still close enough to stores and restaurants).

    Travelers tip on recreational activities

great boogieboarding just 1 mile south at White Sands beach. Rent your snorkel sets and boards just across the street from a guy in a little shop adjacent to the main office - he’s great and the prices can’t be beat. Get a 4X4, you won’t regret it. You could visit awesome beaches that are virtually deserted.

    Return trip

We visited this condo 2 years ago, and returned on purpose. Although the place is showing some age, there are just too many reasons to stay there: Amazing ocean front view from the lanai, sea turtles on the beach by the lava tidepools, prime surfing spot with relentless surfers to watch, perfect sunsets behind the palm trees and all the comforts of home. We’ll go back for trip number three ASAP!

    Nice but Not Nice

The hotel itself so OK. The rooms were clean and spacious. the main objection was the noise during the night from motorcyles and cars as well as birds during sunup. We did not get much sleep because of the noise factor.

    Only OK

Everything was OK but somewhat grey - and although there was an ocean view, in our block, it was accross the main road. As a self catering condo for a couple it was adequate but it was 3 miles from the restaurants etc so not easy to get back and forth in the evening. It was difficult as we arrived late and could not get anything for supper or breakfast without a long walk. We booked for one night only and it may be that if we had been there longer, we would have found other delights. The reception staff were very pleasant.

    We love this place!

We wanted a home away from home, and that’s exactly what we got. It’s no luxury hotel- it’s comfortable apartments with a fantastic view, centerally located with a great staff and fun people to meet. We miss the sea turtles and coming to the grills every night!

    Travelers tip on shopping

DUDE!! Shop at the KTA in Keauhou. Minutes from the condo and best store ever! Great deli, fresh seafood, great beers... can’t beat it.

    Read This Before Booking

We just returned from staying there in late May of 2009. The first and biggest problem is that our room had roaches (within minutes of our arrival, they started crawling out of the stove). When we requested another room without roaches we were told "there weren’t any". Also, we had requested a room with a king sized bed and a sleeper sofa but got a sleeper sofa and a full sized bed. The ocean front room had a great view, but because the rooms were not Air Conditioned, we had to sleep with open windows and the sound of the waves hitting the beach all night and road traffic made it hard to sleep. If you don’t mind roaches and are a sound sleeper (or want use ear plugs), its a good price, otherwise I would look elsewhere.

If you want to see Sea Turtles, go to Two-Step Beach next to Pu’uhonua o Honaunau National Park. We saw

    Condo Bali Kai

Aloha I was amazed at the poor reviews Bali Kai was receiving when I checked the Kona reviews, cause I’ve stayed there a few time many years ago (15 years)and it was great then. So despite the reviews we decided to try Bali Kai again,The room 224 was perfect-clean,well equipped, The bar-b-que by the ocean was charcoal years ago now it Jenair gas and there staff cleans and keeps the grills spotless. Security was tight and staff showed lots of Aloha.

Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stay

One thing I screwed up was our flight home was at like 11;00 pm and our condo check out was 12:00am-at booking I didn’t see the big time difference that we would have to live in rental car. I’ll never make that mistake again.
