    Terrible service; not as advertised

We stayed here with the goal of holing up and enjoying a relaxing night of on-demand movies and room service. We waited ~15 minutes to check in; apparently guests of weddings hosted there take priority. We finally arrived in the room (so far away it required 3 readings of the provided map) to discover that there were no available movies-on-demand. After calling the front desk and being put on hold for 20 minutes and then rudely asked if we were "looking in the right place", they told us they would send someone "right away". We waited half an hour before I went down to the front desk myself to inquire...apparently there was some kind of "emergency" and they again promised to send someone "right away". After waiting another 30 minutes, we realized that someone had fixed the problem remotely; too bad nobody thought to call and let us know. In addition the in-room dining advertised as "all of the mansion offerings and fine wines" is actually just the pub menu. On the upside, the salad I ordered was decent. We were also excited to discover an iPod dock in the room; unfortunately that didn’t work either. And the room was too far from the wireless signal to get service. Overall, the value for what we got here was nowhere near the cost, and as there also appeared to be many unhappy wedding guests lingering near reception, I can’t say I’d recommend this place for an event either.

    Nor friendly at all

Welcomed by the unfriendliest receptionist with an ordering tone of voice, giving orders on how to get to the room... Upon arrival we realize we are underground and see deadcockroaches on the room floor... Request to change room denied... Would not stay at Glen Cove again if they offered it for free..

    The stay was good

My stay was very good. The only problem was my keycard stopped working after the 2nd time I used it and the walk to the front desk took abour 10 minutes each time. By the third attempt they just gave me a regular keep to use for the rest of my stay.

Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stay

Ask for a room closer to the front desk

    Quaint Hotel in Glen Cove

Its a little outdated, but still fairly nice. There’s a pub upstairs by the reception that has pool tables, etc. The food is decent. The rooms are nice, but a little outdated. When I checked in, there was no one to help with my luggage. I had to lug it myself to the very back of the hotel, down a windy corridor and staircase.

    A very pleasant experience

I stayed only one night, arriving somewhat late, but was very pleased with my overall experience. I had dinner in the Pub, then retired for the night. There was a conference in process while I was at the hotel, which was not a problem except that my room was a handicapped equipped room located on the first floor. For my next stay, I will be sure to request a room on a higher floor.

    Travelers tip on dining

Very good selection of unusual beers in the Pub.

Historic Mansion in a beautiful setting with a motel6 attached

Beautiful site for a wedding or small convention but the rooms are not equivalent to the mainsite accomodations provided. Its as if a motel6 was attached to the back of this beautiful mansion. The rooms were poorly finished and extremely noisy due to cheap doors and narrow hallways.

    Travelers tip on dining

    Lots of local dining but

    mini get-away!!

The staff was very nice and helpful. The rooms were big, clean and had the most comfortable bed!! We were on the Island for a wedding and staying at Glenn Cove turned our busy weekend into a weekend at a resort. we played pingpng, racket ball and swam every chance we had. I can’t wait until the next family event so I can go back to Glenn Cove Masion!

The Best Choice for The Glen Cove and Surrounding Area

Great surroundings on a converted estate. The gardens and original outdoor pool are still intact. It is a nice retreat while working in the area. Food service is somewhat limited, but there are many restaurants within 5 minutes. Sauna and Pool are open till 10:30 p.m. great if you are a swimmer!

Extremely happy, awesome place to stay!!!

The hotel was an awesome place to stay.

    Forever Grateful

I forgot my charge for my cellphone, which is considered old and could not purchase a replacement. I contacted them, and after sending a self-addressed stamp return envelope, they returned it to me. I did not realize how much I would miss a little thing like that, but it made all the difference in the world to me and I will be forever grateful.

If I do go back... this is where I’ll stay

Was a lot cheaper than any of the other area hotels. It didnt cost a lot but the quality of the hotel made me feel like it should have cost a lot more. I wish I had gone in the summer time. Beautiful grounds.

    Beautiful Surprise!

While this is really a hotel attached to a mansion, you don’t loose any of the charm or beauty of the mansion by staying in one of the attached rooms. My husband and I were very comfortable in a more modern room and still enjoyed walking through the conference and common areas, not to mention the beautiful grounds. We were there during December and had the added bonus of snow and Christmas decorations. But even without that, there is the indoor pool, raquetball court, and plenty of other things to do. The beauty of an old mansion and the modern conviniences of a top notch hotel (with some resort amenities thrown in).

    Travelers tip

Give yourself plenty of time to find this gem...it’s kind of tucked away and a little hard to find.

Better than most for the price

The hotel was a surprise in that the rooms were more like a luxury hotel than we expected. We expected motel style rooms. The grounds are lovely and the rooms are spacious and comfortable. There is always coffee and free newspapers in the lobby. The only downside of the hotel is that if you get the wrong room, you can walk forever to get to it as the layout of the hotel is very strange. We would definitely stay in this hotel again without looking for something else in the area. We cannot comment on the restaurant as all of our meals, by necessity, were taken elsewhere.

the best thing is how it looks for outside

hotel is old mansion. grounds and original estate house very nice, but i am sure the service was better in the old days. On the other hand, it is the only game in town.

    Better than expected

I was nervous about this place after reading some reviews about it. After staying there for 2 nights, I can’t wait to go back. The room was large, clean, and comfortable. All the fixtures were new, and the light bulbs were even energy savers. I got breakfast delivered both days, and the fruit was fresh. While I didn’t make use of the fitness center, pool, etc., it was impressive to walk by. It isn’t as magnificent as some of the other palaces and mansions that I have stayed in, but you can’t beat the price. This place is worth every penny and more. Also, I went in November. It looked like the grounds would be incredible to explore in the Summer. There is a nice patio area for meals, and probably some gardens when it’s warmer.

Travelers tip on saving a few bucks

If you are driving to visit New York, and you don’t want to pay Manhattan prices, this is a great alternative. It would take about 45 minutes to get into the city by car on the weekend, which is not bad if you plan to see the sites and go to shows. If you don’t want to stay in a hostel or a budget hotel, this is the place to go. It’s not much more expensive (in some cases less), and it’s a very impressive place.

    Great location on Long Island!

The hotel has a great location. . .it just needs some updating. They obviously attempted a half-hearted renovation at one time: the bathrooms were given new granite countertops but they left the old sinks and fixtures; wireless internet service was added to the rooms but wires were left hanging in the closets, etc. The room was clean and pleasant, however.

    Kept in the stables

Not much to say about this place. I was excited to think the hotel was a mansion and I’d be getting to stay in it similar to a bed and breakfast. When I arrived, I checked in and didn’t receive a king bed as desired. Then the guy at the front desk handed me a map showing me where my room was. The directions basically were to go out the door, through the mansion hallway, out the exit, turn right on the side walk and make your way to the building behind the mansion that equates to a low end hotel. I had to laugh when my friend was done parking the car as the news hadn’t been shared that we were actually not staying in the hotel, but out back beside the hotel. Service wasn’t anything to brag about and rooms were not all that. The bed was comfortable, but about all I can say.

    Got a great deal

Otherwise I probably would not have stayed there. I will go back if I stay on Long Island again. Hotel is sprawled out. It is quite a walk from the lobby to many rooms. Some staff members were exceptional. Some were borderline rude. Hotel restaurant was closed two nights for private parties, which was inconvenient, and on Sunday, just closed. Breakfast buffet was pricy but very good.

    Travelers tip on dining

Downtown pizza and Italian food joint called La Famialie was outstanding in service, quality of food and price. We ate there 3 times over the long weekend.

    Bucolic respite!!

Take a stroll around the grounds, sip tea or coffee on the flagstone terrace enjoying the view and listening to the sound of the fountain, or enjoy the pools and recreational area. You can relax here if you allow yourself to do so. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the staff is very helpful and pleasant, and the breakfast buffet is plentiful. The weddings, reunions, etc. are not intrusive considering it’s a popular place to have these events. Loved it and would definitely stay there again.

    Travelers tip on dining

The dining room is not always available for dinner but there are plenty of nearby restaurants.

    Bad choice

We wanted a quiet country place for the weekend. This is not it! This huge convention center and wedding mill is a poor choice for a casual informal weekend. Service was poor, the place is rundown, carpets are filthy, and there is no decent place for a casual meal, other than the huge formal dining room, or a drink. Definitely not recommended.

    Travelers tip on local attractions

Teddy Roosevelt’s home in nearby Oyster Bay, a charming village, is well worth a visit, as is the Planting Fields Arboretum.

    Pretty estaste

I would go back. Kids loved the pool and racket ball.

Very nice mansion with lots of amenities, but needs improvement in service

This hotel is a nice retreat from the busy meeting we attended. It has a big ranch, with lots of tennis courts. It also has indoor pool, racquetball courts, fully equipped gym and a ping-pong table. They also rent rackets so you don’t have to bring your own. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. The mansion looked grand and the service people were all dressed up, but they were not very helpful, kind of indifferent actually. We had a problem with our bathroom ventilation, and they promised to send someone to fix it. But no work has been done when we came back, and we did not even received a note or message explaining anything. Since we were leaving we did not bother to ask them again.

    Pictures are nicer than reality

This hotel was definitely not star rated correctly. I would give this hotel a 2-3 star rating max. The grounds are well kept and expansive, but the hotel building is like an old mansion with a high-end motel attached to the back of the building that spreads out in various directions on one floor. The old carpet, low-ceiling rooms and multiple paint coats along with mediocre room service guaranteed a poor rating for my stay.

    Beautiful Grounds

We had a wonderful stay at the Glen Cove Mansion. The staff was always smiling and helpful, the rooms clean and comfortable. The grounds were well maintained. They were even cutting the grass near our room and we didn’t hear the mower! I would definitely stay here again.

    so, so

A bit disappointed by the food, and the "industrialised" approach for a "manor"...
