. Britex Fabrics is just two blocks or so down the street. I loved the salad place and the taco shop. Macys has a PO, and excellent little restaurants at basement level. Its about 4 miles to walk to GG Park, lovely historic houses and on the way. The blue bus hop-on, hop-off tour was good, Jodies wonderful.
Travelers tip on dining
Cafe Mason on 320 Mason Street, is open 24 hours, serves homemade, delicious food at reasonable prices. I loved the place. I had to go down a floor for ice, but couldnt remember to tell the hotel staff, so it didnt matter to me. My hotel room was lovely, the housekeepers were exemplary. I highly recommend Cafe Mason, at 320 Mason Street, just a block or so away around the corner. The street is lined with art galleries, and good places to eat are abundant. If one didnt care for that, request a room toward the back or away from there. A live band played music on the street corner on the weekend evenings and they were good, so I could sit on my bed and enjoy live music.Id go again and request the same room
I had a lovely art-deco room overlooking Geary street, 4th floor.
Nice place to stay-conveniently located
clean and convenient.
Great for walkers
Great location! Price is right!.
. Staff was friendly and accomodating. I would go back in a heartbeat. The hotel is very close to Union Square and shopping.Great for price
I had the petite room and it was tiny, but perfect for my needs.
. Also a great tip is dont go down to the start of the trolley, go up a block and catch it, virtually no lines.
Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stay
Weekends are nuts in the city! Go during the week if you can. We would return without a second thought. The room was great though a bit small, but hey, we werent running track or anything in it. The staff was great. Didnt quite get that but it was the only issue we had. The only problem we had is we couldnt get washclothes replaced by housekeeping unless we called. Public transportation is cheap by comparison and this hotel is right in the center of all of it. No need for a rental car if simply touring the city.Very Pleasant Stay
I loved the Handlery! Location was great.
the cable cars are fun once or twice, however the bus gets you around quickly!.
Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stay
go to the cable car turnaround at the end of powell street near the handlery, and purchase a three day pass for 18dollars, you can ride endless cable cars as well as endless bus rides.Location, Location, Location!
This hotel location could not be any better, the staff was kind and helpful, we totally enjoyed our stay at the handlery.
. In fact, we enjoyed it so much we are now looking into staying at the San Diego Handerly in the near future. The location was perfect and we were able to use public transit or walk to every thing we wanted to see. Originally we had booked one nights stay and enjoyed it so much we extended for an additional night. Our new go to hotel
My wife and I and two kids loved the hotel.
. But overall the stay was enjoyable. The televisions are outdated though, and the pool closes at 8:00pm.Great location
Everything is close to this location, no need to be driving around.
. There is a good diner around the corner of the hotel, Loris Diner, that serves great food at a reasonable prices. Be prepared to pay $40 per day.
Travelers tip
Parking is expensive. Shopping, cable cars, and restaurants all within walking distance. However, the hotel was in the middle of downtown. The hotel gave us a fan but never offered to switch rooms. Also, the rooms A/C wasnt working and kept the room uncomfortably warm. We kept waking up in the middle of the night with back aches because of the bed. The room was clean but very uncomfortable.
My Fiance and I stayed here for Labor Day weekend.Uncomfortable beds and no A/C.
. Would recommend it for families or couples. The hotel staff were very helpful and nice. There is a pool located in a nice quiet courtyard, and it was just barely warm enough outside to use it in August. Great city experience to step outside your hotel and be in the middle of everything. The location is great! Very near shopping, lots of restaurants, galleries, and to public transportation. we had very little need of watching it.F. The TV is small, but while in S. The rooms are small but very comfortable and clean.Very nice European style and great location
Our family really enjoyed our stay.
. Instead walk up one block and you will get on without waiting. They only take 30 passengers and the cars take 60.
Travelers tip
When waiting for a streetcar ,do not wait at the end of the line. From what I understand is the newer section is better, however we had to upgrade with a cost to change our room. We stayed in the older section onthe hotel and I do not recomend staying in this section. The location od the Handerly Hotel was very good.San Francisco is a great city !
We loved our stay in San Francisco.
Will return to this one!
Near everything, breakfast, lunch or dinner within 1/2 to 3 blocks with all kinds of different restaurants; very comfortable beds, great room, clean!.
Nice location and very helpful staff
Within walking distance of Main shopping area and China town and very convenient.
. Walk to Chinatown - not so hilly. There are cheap places to eat - ask.2nd time Ive been there in would go back in a heartbeat
Friendly Vewry clean Convenient location to shopping, food, and entertainment Good service
Travelers tip on saving a few bucks
If staying a few days, buy a transportation pass.

Travelers tip on saving a few bucks
Be sure to purchase a City pass and same money on using all public transportation. When we return to Sanfransco, we will be sure to return to the Handley. They did a super job and did not mind how many questions I had for them. We worked with two of the concierge and both were very very helpful in setting up several trips for us. Everyone we came in contact with was very friendly and helpful. As we spent very little time in the room. We could have had a larger room but elected not too. We make the reservation on line at a very good rate. The room was small but very neat and clean.Extremely Satisfied
We spend four nights at the Handley Union Square and were extremely satisfied.
. i got one! The service at the hotel was great, always a pleasure to talk to...LOCATION WAS PERFECT!!
Talk about a great location, i am 20 years old and wanted a romantic getaway, and lets just put it this way.
. Got to give them credit for that!
Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stay
Go to the 6th floor of Macys for a great view and picture of Union Square. Next day I asked for another room, and they were nice enough to find me a similar, but more quiet room, and did so with a smile. The first room was right behind the elevator shaft, which banged continuously, accounting for a bad night.) and lack free internet, but they are quite clean and welcoming; The only problem is the noise... The rooms are pretty basic (and petite. The location is amazing, just half a block from Union Square, some 3 blocks from China town, 3 blocks from BART station and Market St. As I was traveling myself, and price was a consideration - I went for a petite room.Top Notch Service, Not Amazing Rooms
I booked my stay at Handlery through Expedia.
. Need to go to Fishermans Wharf for that.
Travelers tip on shopping
Lots of high end shopping in the area but, nothing in the way of tourist shops. Only problem was the room had a musty smell since it was in the Historic part of the hotel and the bathroom could have been cleaner. The staff was very helpful and friendly and the room was comfortable with everything you would need in a compact space.Happy Traveler
I stayed at the Handlery for 4 nights April 14-17, 2009.
Excelent location
Nice hotel, good service.
. The location is great! Right near Union Square, Market Street and the Cable Car turnaround. Its not fancy but my room was spacious had everything that I needed. The staff took care of everything that I needed as quickly as possible.Great staff!
Everyday of my 5 day stay was consistently pleasant.
. The staff was very good. It was simple, perhaps a little old fashioned, but had all the essentials.Reasonable boutique setting
This hotel has character-- the room I was in wasnt your typical hotel setting in terms of decor.
. The hotel staff is courteous and friendly, and food at the Daily Grille is excellent. This is always a plus for me, as I dont spend enough time in hotels to enjoy a view; I just want a good nights sleep.Quiet, comfortable, and centrally located
I was assigned a room on the 4th floor overlooking an inner courtyard, which meant that the noise of Union Square was entirely filtered out.
. Although I had a 12:00 check out, the maid came to my door twice to see if I was still there. An incorrect order finally showed up at 9:50. I called the front desk at 9:30 and they were clueless. I ordered room service for 9:00am. The walls were partially painted as if a quick fix had been made. The room itself had been smoked in although it was marked as a none smoking room. I thought this hotel had great prices but the old saying proved true.Pass on this
I got what I paid for.
. The buses are great and cheap. Do it for fun but its pretty pricy and dosent go to all destinations.
Travelers tip on saving a few bucks
Taking a cab was cheaper then the cable car. Give us great suggestions and help booking tours. The staff was over the top helpful. Easy to get to all areas and close to other transportation. Food everywhere was to die for. Shopping like no other.Location, Location, Location
This hotel was in the best possilbe location.

Thank you for choosing the Handlery Union Square Hotel for your recent visit to San Francisco. Parking is ridiculous at $38 and then they add tax!
Travelers tip on nightlife
Right across the street from the back entrance is an Irish pub with good music and beer with no cover. The location is obviously the best feature. No one would pay to watch a movie on that old piece of junk. It was a tiny old set that discouraged use.Needs Upgrade
The staff was excellent and the bed had been upgraded but the rest of the room was dated and the TV was a complete joke.
