. Instead, drive downtown and eat at Cafe Pesto. Dont bother going to the restaurant for dinner; too expensive for what you get.
Its just off the highway, so easy to find.Nice and quiet.
. Rental cars are now ALLOWED on Saddle Road, dont believe travel agents who say otherwise :) They want to sell you a bus trip. This way you can spend day at Volcano national park, see lava flow at night, sleep in the motel and drive back to Kona in the morning. That room was in bad shape, but who cares it was free and showers worked :) I honestly never been so satisfied with any other hotel and highly recommend it!
Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stay
Rental car is MUST on Big Island! Be ready to drive a lot, you see will so many wonders! Save lots of time and money by not buying Lava Sightseeing bus tour, but by renting a chip motel in Hilo for just one night. They also had Hu Ke Lau show which we were able to enjoy right from the our balcony :) On our last day they let leave our luggage in the storage after morning checkout (our plane was leaving at 11 PM) and then let us use hospitality room for an hour to freshen up before the flight. Outside there was a nice pool and a lagoon where I tested my snorkeling gear and to my surprise found lots of colorful tropical fish! Restaurant had amazing view on the beach (especially during sunset), but we only ate there breakfast and food was just ok. Staff was very friendly and courteous, never in your face. Condition of the room wasnt new, bathroom was a little outdated with peeled paint, and some rust, but everything worked. Our room on the 4th floor was clean and spacious with large balcony overlooking both ocean and hotels entrance (I didnt pay extra for the view, so it was another nice surprise). As we arrived we found a nice bottle of champagne in ice bucket (it was our anniversary). Ive stayed in huge 4 star hotels before, but this one had very cosy, authentic feel to it.Feels like 5 stars!
We didnt have very high expectation for this hotel, but were pleasantly surprised! My wife said it was the best hotel we have been to, and I tend to agree.

Travelers tip
Its close to the airport. We are so glad that we had to stay there for only one night. We did not feel like trying the restaurant even though they gave us discount coupon. Check in clerk was not nice. Check out clerk who listend to my complain was good. TV was working fine. The garden is so so. Hotel location is good. Dirty shower room with bugs, no coffee maker, no hair dryer, dark hallway, almost insane neighbors. The worst experience/very disappointed
The room was like a prison.
. Great value for the price. I would stay here again. It is well maintained even though it is now new. Location is right off the highway and across from the ice pond.Great location and value for the price
Hotel does not have an elevator and is 3 stories high.
Check out a Kava bar and giggle when your tongue goes numb!. Dont miss the farmers market! We really enjoyed the Tsunami museum, but we are kind of nerdy like that! Also stopped into "Coffee Bot" for a salted coffee!?! It was suprisingly delicious, and we were charmed by the original shop, as well as the owner, who had some great local tips.
Travelers tip on local attractions
Hilo is a great town - full of soul and old school charm. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Most importantly, the beds were very comfortable. Had the basic necessities, no frills, for a good price - exactly what we were looking for.Comfortable Old School Hotel
Stayed here for one night.
. Otherwise, great hotel for those on a budget. If you are able to save a little more, then I would suggest to find a hotel with a more comfortable bed. Comfort level is only ok. The bed is an average bed. Highly suggested to wear earplugs when sleeping and a eye cover (depending on what room you are at). The only flipside of this hotel since it is near Hilo airport, it is not easy to get uninterrupted sleep. It is located near Wallmart and the local mall so you can do some shopping or catch a film. The atmosphere is great although parking is somewhat limited. If you are on a budget this is actually not a bad hotel. For Budget minded in Hawaii (revision)
Hilo Seaside Hotel was a decent place to stay.

Must go visit the farmers market Wednesdays and Waturdays. Only problem is that there isnt much parking available. The place is older, but well maintained and is very convenient to everything on that side of the island. The hotel is near the airport, but because the airport only flies interisland, we had no problem with the noise.Friendly Staff, Good Deal
We found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful.
Travelers tip on recreational activities
Good access to local sites and Volcano National Park. The noise- I followed the Expedia recommendations and upgraded my room to the most expensive - I got an "ocean view room" but the street noise and parties in the park accross the street were loud until 3:00 AM. The small parking lot and the local activities and restaurant patrons filled the hotle and nearby street parking. We parked three blocks away. On the negative- the parking- Be Prepared to walk a bit.Not impressed
One the positive -The Hilo Seaside was affordable, very clean and the staff were helpful.
. I think the hotel is perfect located and quite comfortable. The relation between price and quality are really satisfying. So, we dont want to spend too much.
We want to stay our last nigh in Big Island in Hilo, before taking the flight to Kauai.Really enough for a stay in HILO.
. Its an older hotel and parking fills up quick at night, but it is a good place to stay. Employees are friendly.Good for the price
The hotel is comfortable and clean.
. The hostess explained the different dishes, and even told me about a nearby spot where I could swim with the turtles the next afternoon.
Travelers tip on dining
The Ohana Grill, just across the street from the hotel, offered good food (both Hawaiian and more generic)at good prices with very friendly service. It was nice to have so many gardens and parks around the hotel, but parking was a challenge, especially when I got in after 10. The many levels and twists and turns added to the charm but made it challenging to bring luggage to and from the room. There was AC available when needed, but it was pleasant sleeping with the louvered windows open at night. My room was not big enough or furnished comfortably for spending time eating or visiting.Clean basic room
The staff at the Hilo Seaside were polite and generally helpful, and the room was a clean, basic place to sleep at night after a day of touring.

Travelers tip on local attractions
Go south to see the volcanoes and lava flows. Staff was friendly and helpful. We had to ask for a coffee maker which was provided.Good Economical Place to Stay
The room was clean with bathroom, air conditioning, TV, and phone.
. Very friendly, helpful and nice hotel staff. After all you are not spending you vacation on Hawaii at this hotel, you are only spending the nights here. There are some noise from the airport which is close by, but its not very disturbing.Good, cheap hotel in Hilo
This hotel met my expecations.
. The pool area is really pleasant and gardens beautiful. The restaurant was excellent and staff helpful. It was quiet, friendly and convenient. It has an old Hawaiian flair and reminds one of days gone by.Great Stay
We liked the hotel.
Feung Shuiish!
Great! Relaxing! Calm! Friendly Service!.

Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stay
Its a great place to serve as a base for all attractions on the east coast--north or south. Its clean and comfortable and rather charming. We were there for four nights and then later for another before our flight to Oahu. We used it as our base to see Volcano National Park which we went to day and sometimes nights. We loved it
The Hilo was a great place to stay.
. Getting through all of our companys security to log onto our server was a very long process.
Travelers tip for business travelers
The hotel has high-speed internet available, but the connection is a little weak. The on-site restaurant serves excellent food for all three meals. If, on the other hand, you want a quiet, typically Hawaiian laid-back experience with very friendly and helpful staff, I highly recommend them. If you are looking for five stars, this is not the place.Good, clean hotel
This is a nice, clean hotel with a friendly staff.
The drive from Kona to the Park is almost 3 hours (remember that after the long drive you will be doing some hiking and you will be really tired by the end of day).
Travelers tip on local attractions
If you are staying in Kona and plan to visit the Hawaii National Volcano Park it would be a good idea to stay at this hotel for the night.Perfect when youre on a budget
If you only need a place to spend the night, this hotel would be perfect.
And The Hawaiian native ownership/management went out of their way to see that all of us were well cared for!.Very Clean and Tidy
We found the entire property extremely clean and well-kept in every way.
is it a part of america?.
Travelers tip
everything was too expensive. i want to return my money back if i can. front not kind. even i had to pull heavy luggage to 2nd floor bcz no elevator.Different than photo
filthy and dirty condition.
. There are many shops and a museum near the waterway in town. Rainbow Falls is less than 10 minutes. Beaches and water falls are a short drive. This is not a beach town.
Travelers tip on local attractions
If going to the Big Island to see Volcano National Park Hilo is about 45 minutes away. Only negative is limited parking. Would enjoy a longer stay there, perhaps 5 days as opposed to two. The oversized tropical pool was enticing, unfortunately time didnt allow for a dip. There is a restaurant on site but my party opted to dine elsewhere. All staff were extremely friendly from arrival to departure. Several restaurants and hotels are a short walk away.Everything I Expected
The Hilo Seaside sits in a great location.
Always like to stay here
good environment, layed back, friendly people!!
Travelers tip on saving a few bucks
great for the price.
. I would stay there again. It was fairly priced for a value hotel.
This hotel is convienently located, the staff was very friendly, the food in the grill was good although a little pricey, and the room was clean and comfortable.Good room for value price.
. I loved the view and slept like a baby. It is not a grand and glorious hotel; it is showing its age a bit, but its light, its airy, and is in a very good location. Anyone traveling on a budget should like this place.Good on a budget
I liked the atmosphere of the hotel and it was comfortable.
.Good hotel
Very decent hotel for the price.
