Nice and quiet. Its just off the highway, so easy to find. Dont bother going to the restaurant for dinner; too expensive for what you get. Instead, drive downtown and eat at Cafe Pesto.Rating:5
Feels like 5 stars! We didnt have very high expectation for this hotel, but were pleasantly surprised! My wife said it was the best hotel we have been to, and I tend to agree. Ive stayed in huge 4 star hotels before, but this one had very cosy, authentic feel to it. As we arrived we found a nice bottle of champagne in ice bucket (it was our anniversary). Our room on the 4th floor was clean and spacious with large balcony overlooking both ocean and hotels entrance (I didnt pay extra for the view, so it was another nice surprise). Condition of the room wasnt new, bathroom was a little outdated with peeled paint, and some rust, but everything worked. Staff was very friendly and courteous, never in your face. Outside there was a nice pool and a lagoon where I tested my snorkeling gear and to my surprise found lots of colorful tropical fish! Restaurant had amazing view on the beach (especially during sunset), but we only ate there breakfast and food was just ok. They also had Hu Ke Lau show which we were able to enjoy right from the our balcony :) On our last day they let leave our luggage in the storage after morning checkout (our plane was leaving at 11 PM) and then let us use hospitality room for an hour to freshen up before the flight. That room was in bad shape, but who cares it was free and showers worked :) I honestly never been so satisfied with any other hotel and highly recommend it!
Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stayRental car is MUST on Big Island! Be ready to drive a lot, you see will so many wonders! Save lots of time and money by not buying Lava Sightseeing bus tour, but by renting a chip motel in Hilo for just one night. This way you can spend day at Volcano national park, see lava flow at night, sleep in the motel and drive back to Kona in the morning. Rental cars are now ALLOWED on Saddle Road, dont believe travel agents who say otherwise :) They want to sell you a bus trip.Rating:1
The worst experience/very disappointedThe room was like a prison. Dirty shower room with bugs, no coffee maker, no hair dryer, dark hallway, almost insane neighbors. Hotel location is good. The garden is so so. TV was working fine. Check out clerk who listend to my complain was good. Check in clerk was not nice. We did not feel like trying the restaurant even though they gave us discount coupon. We are so glad that we had to stay there for only one night.
Travelers tipIts close to the airport.Rating:4
Great location and value for the priceHotel does not have an elevator and is 3 stories high. Location is right off the highway and across from the ice pond. It is well maintained even though it is now new. I would stay here again. Great value for the price.Rating:5
Comfortable Old School HotelStayed here for one night. Had the basic necessities, no frills, for a good price - exactly what we were looking for. Most importantly, the beds were very comfortable. Staff was very friendly and accommodating.
Travelers tip on local attractionsHilo is a great town - full of soul and old school charm. Dont miss the farmers market! We really enjoyed the Tsunami museum, but we are kind of nerdy like that! Also stopped into "Coffee Bot" for a salted coffee!?! It was suprisingly delicious, and we were charmed by the original shop, as well as the owner, who had some great local tips. Check out a Kava bar and giggle when your tongue goes numb!Rating:3
For Budget minded in Hawaii (revision)Hilo Seaside Hotel was a decent place to stay. If you are on a budget this is actually not a bad hotel. The atmosphere is great although parking is somewhat limited. It is located near Wallmart and the local mall so you can do some shopping or catch a film. The only flipside of this hotel since it is near Hilo airport, it is not easy to get uninterrupted sleep. Highly suggested to wear earplugs when sleeping and a eye cover (depending on what room you are at). The bed is an average bed. Comfort level is only ok. If you are able to save a little more, then I would suggest to find a hotel with a more comfortable bed. Otherwise, great hotel for those on a budget.Rating:5
Friendly Staff, Good DealWe found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is near the airport, but because the airport only flies interisland, we had no problem with the noise. The place is older, but well maintained and is very convenient to everything on that side of the island. Only problem is that there isnt much parking available.
Travelers tip on local attractionsMust go visit the farmers market Wednesdays and Waturdays.Rating:3
Not impressedOne the positive -The Hilo Seaside was affordable, very clean and the staff were helpful. On the negative- the parking- Be Prepared to walk a bit. We parked three blocks away. The small parking lot and the local activities and restaurant patrons filled the hotle and nearby street parking. The noise- I followed the Expedia recommendations and upgraded my room to the most expensive - I got an "ocean view room" but the street noise and parties in the park accross the street were loud until 3:00 AM.
Travelers tip on recreational activitiesGood access to local sites and Volcano National ParkRating:4
Really enough for a stay in HILO.We want to stay our last nigh in Big Island in Hilo, before taking the flight to Kauai. So, we dont want to spend too much. The relation between price and quality are really satisfying. I think the hotel is perfect located and quite comfortable.Rating:4
Good for the priceThe hotel is comfortable and clean. Employees are friendly. Its an older hotel and parking fills up quick at night, but it is a good place to stay.Rating:3
clean basic roomThe staff at the Hilo Seaside were polite and generally helpful, and the room was a clean, basic place to sleep at night after a day of touring. My room was not big enough or furnished comfortably for spending time eating or visiting. There was AC available when needed, but it was pleasant sleeping with the louvered windows open at night. The many levels and twists and turns added to the charm but made it challenging to bring luggage to and from the room. It was nice to have so many gardens and parks around the hotel, but parking was a challenge, especially when I got in after 10.
Travelers tip on diningThe Ohana Grill, just across the street from the hotel, offered good food (both Hawaiian and more generic)at good prices with very friendly service. The hostess explained the different dishes, and even told me about a nearby spot where I could swim with the turtles the next afternoon.Rating:5
Good Economical Place to StayThe room was clean with bathroom, air conditioning, TV, and phone. We had to ask for a coffee maker which was provided. Staff was friendly and helpful.
Travelers tip on local attractionsGo south to see the volcanoes and lava flows.Rating:3
Good, cheap hotel in HiloThis hotel met my expecations. There are some noise from the airport which is close by, but its not very disturbing. After all you are not spending you vacation on Hawaii at this hotel, you are only spending the nights here. Very friendly, helpful and nice hotel staff.Rating:4
Great StayWe liked the hotel. It has an old Hawaiian flair and reminds one of days gone by. It was quiet, friendly and convenient. The restaurant was excellent and staff helpful. The pool area is really pleasant and gardens beautiful.Rating:5
Feung Shuiish!Great! Relaxing! Calm! Friendly Service!Rating:5
We loved itThe Hilo was a great place to stay. We used it as our base to see Volcano National Park which we went to day and sometimes nights. We were there for four nights and then later for another before our flight to Oahu. Its clean and comfortable and rather charming.
Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stayIts a great place to serve as a base for all attractions on the east coast--north or south.Rating:4
Good, clean hotelThis is a nice, clean hotel with a friendly staff. If you are looking for five stars, this is not the place. If, on the other hand, you want a quiet, typically Hawaiian laid-back experience with very friendly and helpful staff, I highly recommend them. The on-site restaurant serves excellent food for all three meals.
Travelers tip for business travelersThe hotel has high-speed internet available, but the connection is a little weak. Getting through all of our companys security to log onto our server was a very long process.Rating:3
Perfect when youre on a budgetIf you only need a place to spend the night, this hotel would be perfect.
Travelers tip on local attractionsIf you are staying in Kona and plan to visit the Hawaii National Volcano Park it would be a good idea to stay at this hotel for the night. The drive from Kona to the Park is almost 3 hours (remember that after the long drive you will be doing some hiking and you will be really tired by the end of day)Rating:5
Very Clean and TidyWe found the entire property extremely clean and well-kept in every way. And The Hawaiian native ownership/management went out of their way to see that all of us were well cared for!Rating:1
Different than photofilthy and dirty condition. even i had to pull heavy luggage to 2nd floor bcz no elevator. front not kind. i want to return my money back if i can.
Travelers tipeverything was too expensive. is it a part of america?Rating:5
Everything I ExpectedThe Hilo Seaside sits in a great location. Several restaurants and hotels are a short walk away. All staff were extremely friendly from arrival to departure. There is a restaurant on site but my party opted to dine elsewhere. The oversized tropical pool was enticing, unfortunately time didnt allow for a dip. Would enjoy a longer stay there, perhaps 5 days as opposed to two. Only negative is limited parking.
Travelers tip on local attractionsIf going to the Big Island to see Volcano National Park Hilo is about 45 minutes away. This is not a beach town. Beaches and water falls are a short drive. Rainbow Falls is less than 10 minutes. There are many shops and a museum near the waterway in town.Rating:5
always like to stay heregood environment, layed back, friendly people!!
Travelers tip on saving a few bucksgreat for the priceRating:4
Good room for value price. This hotel is convienently located, the staff was very friendly, the food in the grill was good although a little pricey, and the room was clean and comfortable. It was fairly priced for a value hotel. I would stay there again.Rating:4
Good on a budgetI liked the atmosphere of the hotel and it was comfortable. Anyone traveling on a budget should like this place. It is not a grand and glorious hotel; it is showing its age a bit, but its light, its airy, and is in a very good location. I loved the view and slept like a baby.Rating:5
Good hotelVery decent hotel for the price.
