. Buyer be warned. It would have been nice to hang out at the hotel some, but the hotel conditions made it miserable. Kauai is gorgeous and we had a great time overall. Pool hours were 9 am to 6 pm which left no time to swim after a lovely day seeing the sights. The list of what did not work includes the A/C, lighting, toilet, the security doors, etc. The hotel is very old, in poor physical condition, and barely liveable. The hotel staff were unhelpful to an extreme (although some individuals tried to be helpful despite the low expectations of hotel management). There were no restaurant services, as advertised. Here are some details. If you have a future reservation there, change it as soon as possible. The pictures of the hotel illustrate vintage, older Hawaii lodging right on East Coast waters.Kauai Sands - Pictures do not tell the story
This hotel was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in for a vacation in Hawaii or anywhere.
Travelers tip on shopping
There was a Wal-Mart, Costco and Barnes & Noble in one shopping center. Staff was most pleasant and helpfull. We also liked closeness to the most popular breakfast restaurant on the Island.Sup by the Ocean
We liked the closeness to the Ocean and each evening we bought take out dinner and ate by the ocean with the waves crashing and the lovely evening breeze.
. Theres a small shopping center nearby, but other than that, you probably do need a car to get around in Kauai. Didnt think it was necessary. Inexpensive, although they do try to "upgrade" you to a room with a pool view instead of parking. Perfect if you just need a place to sleep.Pretty good
Nothing fancy, but the hotel had everything I needed.
. Very reasonable and location is great. Good place for shopping and dining.

The Coconut market place is right near the hotel. But the price is right and it provides enough good features to make it easy to recommend to others to stay there. Down side is that the pool closes at night. The rooms are comfortable, clean and just enough room. Its central location makes it great for this.Good place to start
The Kauai Sands hotel is a good place to start from to explose the island of Kauai.
. I would recommend eating at eggberts or Ono Family Restaurant for breakfast. A little pricey yes, but awesome in taste. So clsoe even that it is just simply next door for just good food.

So many places eat around this hotel. It just seems a little nostalgic. So everythign is great about this place. there are also pools that are rarely crowded. I have had a blast. Just a great place. So if you just plan on exploring a lot then this hotel is nicely priced and just good for sleeping. The staff was very nice and helpful to every one of our needs. There is a few bike paths and is also just on the beach. It is placed in the middle of all good eating spots.
This hotel was good enough to sleep inside.Great Location, should be used for just a place to stay.
. Great restaurants within walking distance. Nice beach for relaxing and watching the ocean. Could have better signs to find it.Great Place to Stay
Kuai Sands is in a great location.
. we love the location also... and it is... we do not spend much time in our room so it does not matter a whole lot to us if the room is super nice just clean and decent....Love Kauai
we have stayed at the Kauai sands 3 times now and we like it there for the price it is not bad.
. I really liked the place. It is located just off the main road and you dont have to worry about traffic noise. This hotel has a good beach and really good waves for surfing; some of the best waves I found. I spent a great deal of my time away from the hotel and I just look for a clean room.Affordable Place
This is a place to stay where you want a clean room.

Do not miss Waimea Canyon it is truly one of the most beautiful sites in the world. For the price you cannot beat this hotel. Small a/c worked great. Housekeeping staff excellent room cleaned every day.
Hotel staff friendly.Good clean affordable room.
. The room was clean, the staff were nice, and we enjoyed the ocean view every day. an affordable, no frills hotel with a great location for traveling to other areas of the island, north & south, and with plenty of shopping and restaurants within walking distance.e.Nice budget hotel
The Kauai Sands was exactly what we were looking for, i.
. Id say that if youre interested in being out and doing stuff on the island and mostly want a hotel for sleeping at a great price, then this is a great choice. Puzzling, but true. In fact, I would say it was the most comfortable hotel we ever stayed in. Still, my husband and I found ourselves very comfortable there. It reminded me of an apartment for college students.Great Low Budget Hotel for Sleeping After Days Out and About on Kauai
The hotel was unimpressive in terms of decor and amenities.
What a dump!!!!. I guess if you had a family, and wanted something cheap, then this would be OK. Im glad we were only staying there for two nights. The pool is cracking around the edge, and the beach is virtually unusable. This hotel is very, very old and has not been updated at all.
The pictures on the website make it look a lot better than it actually is.You get what you pay for.
. Thank goodness it was cheap and we did not go to Kauai to hang out in the hotel anyway. Not impressed
Thank goodness the room was clean! The mattress was rock hard, the ceiling fan didnt work, the air conditioner was noisey, the towels were skimpy, the seal on the room refridgerator was faulty and the view was non existant.

Travelers tip on saving a few bucks
Its great if you are not into the fancy resort atomsphere and/or trying to save money. Right on the beach. The location is nice. There are no services available at this hotel, thus you need to always go somewhere to get a bite to eat. The shower water pressure was very weak. The room was consistently hot, could not get any evening breeze at all.
If you are looking for a low-budget room, then this is the place...It is what it is.
:)
Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stay
YOu must rent a car - getting around the island by taxi is expensive( of course) and the bus in somewhat infrequent, but nothing says holiday more than renting a mustang convertible!!!!.... Even the rooster crowing outside my room at 6am in the morning just added to the ecperience. I hope to return one day to Kauai and will definately stay there. Alot of that was due to the hotel and the friendliness and assistance that I received in the 24 service desk.Great Stay - will love to return
I had a great time on Kauai.
Kapaa Girl at Heart. It has the charm of days long gone, and I wouldnt change anything about it." You cannot compare it to the big name luxury hotels, because it is not one and doesnt try to be one.Very nice stay as usual
Kauai Sands is the epitome of "Old Hawaii.

Great central location. Great staff. Only dissappointment - the pools were only open until 7pm. Was pleasantly surprised. Not fancy but -
Very affordable, clean, basic hotel.
Nice restbit
excellent service by management.
. all of that was within 4 miles of where we stayed. Surf, boogy board, snorkel, kayak, luau.

So many things to do in that area. Good for people who dont need a fancy hotel and are on a budget. less than 10 min from airport. In Kapaa. Is in a great location.Good for travelers on a budget
It is literally right on the beach & right next door to Coconut marketplace.
. I would definitely stay here again. Staff were friendly and helpful. It is near to stores and there is a shopping center nearby. The hotel is outdated, but the rooms were clean and suitable. Not so bad for what I paid for
I got a good rate, so I am satisfied with what I got.

Travelers tip on dining
most awesome food just down the street--Wahoos? forgot name==big hook on sign, next to field with goats, tikis lit at night.Economy
Got what we expected--inexpensive place to stay, on the beach, hear it is going to close before long --too bad.
Operational
Good base for travellers & all those who aim at exploring the Paradise

Kaapa close.
Our room had air conditioning, a fan, tv and even some shampoo and conditioner, it was a great budget hotel!
Travelers tip on local attractions
Check out The Ahi Nori wrap at Mermaids Cafe (add some salt). The only problem was I did not get internet access, that would have been perfect.
I lov Kauai, and the Sands has a central location, as long as you rent a car you are all good...Kauai Sands.
