Hotel Management, General Manager. We thank you again for your comments and hope that you will visit us again in the near future. Along with upgrading our rooms we are also adding a variety of stores to our mall area and enhancing our restaurants with new menu’s to better serve our guests. Our pool will be completed in two weeks as well as our Billfish Bar. We are working diligently and as quickly as possible to complete our final stage of renovating our East Tower as well as the pool and public and lobby areas. Thank you for your recent stay with us.. The only tour we took was a boat trip by Sea Quest. We loved our quiet newly renovated room with very comfortable Simmons bed! The employees were all very nice! However, this is a old hotel and has a musty smell in lobby, the swimming pool was under construction, the beach cove is filled with kayaks/canoes and fisherman! Other than that its a good place!

Get a rental car with your flight/hotel package and save! Drive to Hilo and check out Akaka Falls and the Botanical Gardens! Next visit the National Volcano park you can drive around and see all the past craters and walk through a Lava Cave! Another day drive to south point to check out Place of Refuge and visit the painted church.Great Location!
If youre looking for a great Kona location this is it! Its across the street from Alli Drive which has several resteraunts(QUINNS our favorite) and shopping village.

We would like to thank you for your recent stay with us. Our room had been redone and was nice, but the rest of the hotel (lobby, mall area, grounds) were very run down. There was a tiny beach, which was better than nothing, but a pool was very important to us. When we arrived, we were informed the pool was closed.Good location, but disappointing stay
We chose this hotel this time because of the location, because it was within walking distance to town.

Thank you for your comments about your recent stay at the King Kamehamehas Kona Beach Hotel. I suggest contacting the hotel to inquire on the progress of the renovations before booking. In conclusion: Based on the lack of amenities due to the incomplete renovations, I would have been better off paying a little more for a hotel not in the midst of renovations. For the inconvenience, the hotel did provide a $50 gift card for a future stay but dont think Ill be in town before the card expiration date, thus the card was useless to me. Swimming pool and jacuzzi were also closed for renovations(I didnt know this at time of booking and would not have booked if known). All the other retail spaces were empty and vacant. Only two shops open for business(1 sundries and 1 footwear). Negatives: As of 8-21-09, hotel renovations were only half done and only one wing was complete. Location was convenient for walking to various shops and restaurants.
Positives: Newly renovated room was clean and comfortable with large flat screen TV....Maybe after renovations.

fortunately there are several very nice restuarants in Kona but dont wait too late as everything, including ABC stores close by 10. Beach was hard sand and there were fishermen along side of swimmmers and street people laying and yelling around. About 4 ft from commode. I wonder who located the toilet paper. The dining room was closed and only opened for one night a buffet, UGH and the view of the wing being remodelled had toilets on the lanai. Problem was that the jackhammering to remove the pool and spa had just start right under our room.
The newly remodelled wing I was in, the rooms were very nice.Construction condition not informed of prior to arrival.

Travelers tip on saving a few bucks
Drive over to Hilo to take the helicopter tour. I was very pleased with it, and would visit again.It is surrounded by nice little restaurants and stores....has the calm sand beach steps away, and only a few yards to the pier, to go on the submarine, glassbottom boats, jetskis... This hotel is superconvenient.but the main section is still un-renovated... We had a new room, it was as nice as any 4 star place I have stayed.Superb spot

We loved the little outdoor restaurants nearby. We want to go back. Of course you cant beat the shopping in the area, everything is within walking. The location is wonderful, the luau is very good and we found some terrific restaurants near by. more towels, pillows etc.e. We were there the last month of old room usage, so it was a little bit shabby, but clean and the service was very fast, every time we requested something, i. We saw the carpet and textiles going in. It will be very nice when complete.The best location!!!

about our hotel. Horrible. We went somewhwere else. This was 10 times worse than Motel 6. The area around the elevators were dirty & needed painted. We have pictures that we took.cramped room...torn linoleum...dirty tub...mold in the hallway ceiling... The rugs were filthy. We were on our honeymoon & it was a nightmare. DO NOT GO THERE.A Skid Row Hotel
Expedia is great! They did not know that this hotel was NOT like the pictures on their site.

We took the circle island bus tour the first day and found it a simple way to get oriented to the island. Restaurant on site is handy. The location is wonderful -can walk to town and activities.Will return

One of the more economical hotels in the area.as a stepping stone to all other area activities... But, for now, the hotel completely met our expectations, ie, a clean and comfortable place to sleep. When that is accomplished, one can assume that rates will increase. The hotel intent is to return to that grandure. 1 in this area on a grand scale. At one time, this hotel was no. The staff was excellent and conveniently located in Kona.Met our expectations
This hotel is under renovations and with such, results in an unfinished hotel, but, non-the-less, a good and economical hotel.

Travelers tip for business travelers
Internet is down every other day but there is a very tourist friendly place "Beach Dog" right across the street. The biggest disadvantage is the fact that the rooms are outdated, though when I was there there were some renovations going on in the West tower of the building. Its close to Kona downtown and is right by the Peir, some historic places and even has a little sandy beach.Close to everything but needs massive renovation

The people that work there really seem to try and make it nice, honestly though, they dont have much to work with. Pretty disgusting really. Pool and spa very dirty, sunbeds also - there is thick grease on everything from suntan oil. Will be great once the remodel is done - they also need to revitalize the convenience/shopping downstairs - there is nothing there. Decor very shabby and cheap rather than economy. Its a shame that in such a great location this hotel has obviously been neglected for a long time.Needs a remodel

If youre looking for clean, adequate accommodations within walking distance of the water, and good bars, restaurants, and shopping, with ample free parking, this might be the place. If youre looking for a luxury resort hotel where you spend all your time at the resort, this is not for you. The staff is top notch, the mattress was firm, the room was very clean, and the location is excellent. Remodeling is under way in one wing.A Good Place To Stay in Kailua-Kona

Great dining and shopping within walking distance to hotel. Perfect for our one night stay.Actually has small protected beach.The maintenance worker remembered my 7 year old was celebrating her birthday.Great location,great luau, very nice and helpful staff.Great value

One elevator was out all week. Ice machine on our floor was out all week. Luau was lame. The restaurant was empty every time we walked by it so we passed. If you like to people watch, get on the street side but the rooms are in pretty sad shape. They are doing a remodel of the west tower, if you can you want the new rooms. Go uptown or downtown in walking distance.Perfect Location but needs a Facelift

Be sure to go to the Kona Brewery - a tour, great beer and very good food. The bar served the worst Mai-Tai I have ever had. The location and beach area was nice; the pool area was in bad shape with tiles missing and general disrepair. I would not stay there again until the renovation is done.
They are renovating part of the hotel and the rest is in pretty bad shape.Find somewhere else.

Walk to museum, historic sites, beaches and shops.m. The only eating option on the premises on the other days is the pool bar and grill, which closes at 8:45 p. Restaurant is only open in the evening on Friday and Saturday.Needs updating
Location is great to get around on foot in Kona, but the hotel property is 40 years old and shows it age.

We would like to thank you for your recent stay at the King Kamehameha’s Kona Beach Hotel.00 each, dont pay the high prices you see online. The airport at Kona sold fresh real flower fragrant leis for 5. Dont pass up the snorkeling it was fabulous and many beach accesses close by hotel.

Dont prepay for luaus or activities before you go, there are coupon books everywhere and we got a good deal on the luau from expedia by phone while we were there. Looking forward to visiting them again after the renovations are completed. There was a convenience shop with all needed items and a little mall attached to the hotel.it was fabulous... They have a luau right on the property and I highly recommend it. The staff was friendly and they did keep the hotel clean despite the ongoing repairs. The hotel at the time was under a major refurbishing so the carpet, doors, furniture etc severely needed updating.Perfect location
This hotel was right on the beach and a short walk to all the best shopping and dining in Kona.
. It had a GREAT location right at the top of Alii drive and a cute little beach. Though while we were there it looked as if they are renovating the whole back tower. Most of the stores and other features were empty.Seen Better Days

Michaels Catholic church in the middle of Kona was a highlight of my trip and of course my visit to the Painted Church.Good value for the price---pleasant personnel
