Worthwhile ChoiceAlthough the building was not new by amny means, it was aq good choice for a place to stay in the Newport RI area. The staff was very friendly and helpful.Rating:2
Not impressedWe were very disappointed in the bed. It was very hard and didnt get a good nights sleep. There was no telephone service, key cards didnt work and had to get new ones (we werent the only ones with this problem), cable went out our last day, spilled coffee outside our door and wasnt cleaned until much later although we told them twice, was definitely not worth the money, room was small for a king size bed, bathroom was too small also, water pressure in shower was very low. We ended up checking out at 6:30am.Rating:3
Newport SpaThis was an out dated hotel in some disrepair. Grounds are nice if you want to get out of your room and bar b que, or just sit outside on a lawn chair. Convenient to newport, but no shuttle service was available. In room jacuzi was nice and the make your own waffles for breakfast were good.Rating:4
Good Price right outside NewportThis hotel, although a bit older and in need of some updates, was very clean and served its purpose. It was extremely easy to get into the heart of Newport (only a few minutes away) and we enjoyed the whirlpool very much. Staff was helpful and friendly. IF you are looking for luxury, this isnt the place but if you want good service and an affordable, family-friendly environment that is close to the heart of Newport, this is the place to go!
Travelers tip on local attractionsThe Newport Vineyards was a great (and cost effective)place to visit. We paid less than $10 each for a tour and tasting and the staff was super friendly and knowledgaeably. We brought back several bottles of wine as gifts. Also, check out the Newport Visotors Center. They have countless tours, restaurant listings and other attractions all listed in one location.Rating:1
One Half Star --Stay AwayParking lot was unsafe, the ext. doors were propped at our late check-in (midnight). The room was filthy with something that looked like feces or blood on the bathroom door, toothpaste on the mirror, trash behind the door, a rug so dirty we wouldnt walk on it, matted hair on the blanket the desk gave us, falling drop ceiling, peeling paint. We tried a refund and were only offered an upgrade. Pics on web were misleading. Stay away
Travelers tip on saving a few bucksYou wont here... We paid a top dollar at this hotel while the national chains in the area had rooms at lower rates and superlative quality lodging.Rating:1
Cleaning? My wifes bed had crumbs and hair in it. The floo had crumbs on it. The rooms were small, and the phones did notwork. Servie was terrible. They moved us to another room, and I asked for the cart to be brought to my room- did not happen. Next night Econolodge 3 1/ 2 stars vs. this place at 1/4 starRating:5
Cant wait to go backI stayed there only one night, and I didnt want to leave. The staff is very friendly. The room was comfortable, clean and the Jetted tub worked great. Also they have a shuttle that takes you to downtown Newport for $2 per person each way, the shuttle picks up every 15 minutes, which is very convenient. Overall i am very happy with the hotel, and I cant wait to go back.Rating:1
Very weird hotelThis hotel is the strangest I have ever stayed in. Its a mish-mash of hallways and doors. Not enough staff at the front desk, and, although the front desk staff were friendly, they did not present a professional appearance.Rating:4
cant beat the price in Newportthe hotel was 5 minutes from downtown Newport. Hotel was clean, staff friendly and assisted you with your questions. Pool was clean. maid service did not come early in the morning waking you up to clean your room. beds were not that comfortable but it could have been worse. overall a good stay and I would go back. Jacuzzi was great. whenever traveling to Newport I always stop at beavertail state park it is a must. The kids love it. great for apicnic or exploring for crabs and starfish.Rating:5
Not 5 star in ammenities, but 5 star service....We totally enjoyed our stay. The room was clean, a pretty good size and comfortable. The people working there were fantastic. The location was perfect for access to Newport business. At the price we never could have found a better situation.Rating:5
Graet hotel and priceHotels close to Newport without the huge price. Room was clean. Staff was very prompt in bringing extra towels. Kids loved the pool. Do it yourself waffles available at the breakfast which I love.Rating:4
A nice place to fully relaxWe booked a general room and were automatically upgraded to a jacuzzi room, which was wonderful. Our room was to be non-smoking but the previous individuals in there had obviously not complied. After mentioned, we were immediately moved to a different room even quieter than the other (with no smoke smell). We really enjoyed the jacuzzi tub as well as the massage chair in the room. Great location too.Rating:3
Just OKRoom smelled like smoke even though it was non-smoking and staff left us waiting at the front desk for a long time. It was not worth what we paid for the room with the jacuzzi tub.Rating:4
Great place to stayThe only problem we had was that the heat was not on in the room and it was freezing cold. It took at least an hour to warm the room enough. I wish theyd turned on the heat when they know people will be checking in soon. Other than that, the entire stay was really good. The hotel staff was helpful and the accommodations were very nice. Ive been to this place twice and will definitely stay there again.Rating:3
the area was greatok doors didnt work with hotel cardRating:1
Completely unhappy with this hotelThe reason for choosing this hotel was to have an indoor pool for my son while on a weekend getaway. The pool was cold, unclean and the hot tubs were not working. I was completely dissatisfied with this hotel and the management stated the pool was able to be used but the hot tubs were never fixed.Rating:4
Nice place for the money. We were in Newport for a Navy event. The location to the Navy base was very good. Our over all stay was very nice. The hotel has some age on it and is some what worn but clean and rooms were quite nice. The service was very good and helpful. I would return if I go back to Newport. It was a good hotel for the price.Rating:1
Wouldnt go backNo restaurant service. "Complimentary" breakfast served in a hot, un-airconditioned room. Saran wrapped bagels and danish - very rubbery. Three types of cold cereal, 2 sugared. No decaf coffee. "Spa" was a hotel room that they simply hung a sign on when someone was having services. Hotel in generally run down condition. Desk staff NOT helpfulRating:3
a place to stayThe thing that stood out about this hotel was the staff ... they were the friendliest people and eager to make sure that we were comfortable and had everything we needed. In this day and age - thats a selling point to me. The hotel itself - is in need of a little love. Theyre going through major renovations - some rooms should not be used until renovated - at least at the prices charged. The rooms that have been completed are comfortable. Would I go back? Probably - again because of the staff and in hopes that the hotel has worked hard to complete the project of renovating!
Travelers tip on diningDining in the area - especially down in Newport was wonderful! I have to say there wasnt a meal we didnt enjoy - food was delicious, service was friendly and we never had to wait!Rating:1
horrible place would not recommendvery old, they tried to update it but nothing works right. the toilet did not flush, shower overflowed into room below, towels smelled. the pool was horrible, cold and dirty, hot tubs were not working. they make it look good on line but its not worth the stay!Rating:1
Very unimpressed. Would not recommend. The place was very clean. Other than that, it was all downhill. I wont go into the nitty-gritty because I want to focus on the really upsetting part. When we got there (Saturday about 5:30pm) we found that the small refrigerator in the room did not work. My daughter (in her thirties) went to the desk to report the problem. She was assured that when the maintenance person came on duty in the morning it would be taken care of. She went back in the morning before we left @ about 8:30 and was again assured that the maintenance person would be arriving at 9 and that the refrigerator would be taken care of first thing and that anything in the refrigerator would be transferred to the new one. My daughter had kept her insulin (she is a diabetic) on ice overnight and decided to put it in the refrigerator. It would be fine for an hour or two and the new refrigerator would be put in and going by then. We got back @ 10pm and the refrigerator had not been replaced and her insulin was no longer any good. A complaint was lodged with the manager (that was three days ago) and we have heard nothing.Rating:5
WOW...TOO MUCH PLACE FOR THE MONEY......THE ASKING PRICE FOR 5 DAYS AND 4 NIGHTS WERE RIDICOUSLY LOW,HAVING A QUEEN SIZE BED,JACUZZI,ELECTRIC IRON WITH TABLE,AIR CONDITIONER,CABLE TV,SMALL FREZEER,COFFEE MAKER WITH ACCESORIES,BATHROOM WITH A SHOWER,CLEAN TOWELLS,AND A INDOOR WARN WATER POOL..BATHROOM IS THE JUST A BIT TOO SMALL,BUT WHO CARES.CERTAINLY NOT ME.BESIDES THAT,ITS CLOSE TO EVERYTHING INCLUDING DOWNTOWN NEWPORT,THE MANSIONS,THE BEACHES.PLENTY OF RESTAURANTS AROUND.I WENT THERE WITH MY WIFE THIS PAST JULY 25TH,AND WILL GO AGAIN NEXT JULY 2009.
Travelers tip on local attractions...YOU JUST NEED A PLACE TO SLEEP WHILE GETTING THE MOST OF NEWPORT,RI. THIS HOTEL IS JUST PERFECT IF YOU WANT TO SAVE MONEY.DONT EXPECT THE LUXURY OF MAJOR HOTELS FOR WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO PAY AT THIS HOTEL.CERTAINLY I DO RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE...Rating:3
Nothing SpecialIts a couple miles from downtown Newport, they have a shuttle, and its a little bit less expensive than places that are closer. The massage chairs, indoor pool, breakfast, and all-day coffee are nice. Our room had a musty smell, only one bed was a Tempurpedic (and the person who slept in it had a back ache the next day), the shower had OK water pressure but we couldnt adjust the temperature of the water in it! Our window overlooked a hallway with construction materials in it, and the conference room was filled with old junk.Rating:4
A very nice stayWe enjoyed our stay. The room was nice with two queen sized beds and a small fridge, microwave, coffee pot and even an iron and ironing board. I didnt book a room with a whirlpool tub, but we got one anyway. The continental breakfast was OK - coffee, bagels, cereal, fruit salad, yogurt and waffels. The staff was friendly and helpful with directions and suggestions. We arrived early (before 1pm) and was able to check in, which was a nice surprise. We stayed Mon and Tue night. The only negative is the walls are thin and you can sometimes hear the people in the next room.Rating:3
Not the best, but suited our needsI stayed in this hotel for three nights with my husband and my four year old son. Honestly from the pictures I saw online I was expecting something a little better, but it served its purpose I guess. The indoor heated pool was kind of run down and we did not use it. They offered a continental breakfast which we ate one day and it was ok, my son liked making his own waffle and so did my husband. We had a standard room with two queen beds and the bathroom was small, the shower was pretty small. The room wasnt very big either. They did have massage chairs to use in the lobby, they were nice. They did allow us to do a late check out that was vey nice. Over all it was an ok stay!
