. We received a significant discount through Expedia which brought the price down into reasonable range.Excellent Hotel - Center of Newport
The Viking is excellent in all aspects but normally pricey.
. They were accommodating and changed it plus credited our account for the upgrade cost. Didnt need to pay for no sleep. Beautiful room but it was right on the busiest street corner and we felt like we were traffic cops all night long. Second time they offered us an upgrade for a certain price. Nice place but I would ask to see the room first.
Stayed twice at this hotel.Ask to see the room first.
. The only negative was that the hotel was not near the water. The hotel was lovely and we were able to get an upgrade for a resonable amount.Could not have been better
Great hotel and I suggest going to Newport in September when the weather is good and the crowds are down.
. Breakfast on patio was a delight and staff was very professional and friendly. Unfortunately room and beds were not that good. Pool and gym were the highligts of the hotel. Location of the hotel is perfect.Perfect location
We stayed 2 nights at Viking and were very impressed by hotels service.

Scardellas was an unbelievable Italian restaurant! And reasonable too!. Overall, a great weekend getaway. My only complaint was that the room was a little small. The location was perfect.Overall stay
The hotel was amazing.
. I recommend it!
Travelers tip on local attractions
Although you can walk to a few of the mansions from the Viking Hotel, its best to take the trolley, which runs often during the day/early evening. Other than that (and a 6am fire alarm--without incident, thank goodness), its a lovely hotel. The screen kept skipping, like it had a bad cable connection. It wasnt the best, and for a boutique hotel, I find this surprising. No better place for 4th of July fireworks, it was a perfect place to be! My only complaint is the TV reception. Oh, and the rooftop terrace--really sweet and with a nice view of the harbor. Everything is walking distance and theres the trolley, too. We parked the car and didnt need to use it at all during our stay. Its a great location, with the Newport mansions and the harbor at walking distance.Lovely hotel, great location
My husband and I spent a week at the Viking and enjoyed our stay.
. People in the room above us werent abnormally noisy but we could hear every move they made. Front desk personnel were very friendly and helpful as was housekeeping. The latter was the smallest space I think Ive ever experienced at a hotel. It is an older hotel and the bathroom was divided with sink and closet on one side and toilet and shower on the other. We could walk nearly everywhere.Old hotel, good location
This was a wonderful location in Newport and I would recommend it for that alone.
..... I liked the location and the facilities of teh hotel but it wasnt what I expected.... We paid to upgrade to another type of room and it was much nicer but bed linen seemed heavily used there was a blood stain on the duvet. Not impressed
We booked a Newport room and it was really dated and tired.
Every good but no frozen drinks! Boo Hoo!.
. The rooms were well sized and comfortable. It was within walking distance of shopping and restaurants. The staff was very attentive.Beautiful Hotel
I really loved the archtitecture of the hotel.
.Very Nice, but Expensive
I was satisfied with the quality of service and the rooms - however everything cost extra (parking, television) and added up.
. Johnnycakes (poached eggs and smoked salmon).I. I had the R. Brunch at The Candy Store was awesome. Overall, it was a good time, and well definitely stay there again!

Try The Mooring for dinner (and the bag of doughnuts for an app!). We had drinks at the bar, which was fun. Id selected the smallest room when booking because it was the cheapest, but I wish Id gotten the next bigger one because it was TINY. I loved the decor of our room, but my only complaint was the size of it. Its a big, old place, and very well-maintained.Loved this old hotel
The hotel is in a great location, just a few blocks from the waterfront.
. We saw some people with dogs and they had to carefully carry them over some of the walk. Be warned, some of the walk is actual cliffs and not simply a walking path.it is free and interesting....
Travelers tip on recreational activities
Go on the cliff walk. I probably would not have paid full price. I was fortunate to get a good price on the room before the summer season started.breakfast was very good and not too overpriced... The restaurant/bar are nice as well. The pool and gym are very nice.I passed and was happy with the room we initially received... We were on the first floor (although numbered in the 2000s) and I asked if we could have a more renovated room, to which I was told I could upgrade for the very low price of $30 per night. The room was large but the bathroom was very small and not renovated.Quality Hotel if had for the Right Price
My fiance and I stayed here in the Spring.
.however, they dont take reservations or credit cards...

Scales and Shells on Thames Street was a delicious spot for dinner. Our only complaints were the bathroom in our room was incredibly small (two adults could not fit in the bathroom at the same time) and the hotel seemed a little understaffed.away from the busy waterfront but within walking distance..Good location
. Other than that the Hotel is very clean and comfortable and we would stay there again. The hotel resturaunt was also very busy and it took some time for service. The only con is that there were many events going on the weekend that we visited and you had to walk through one of them to get to the pool which was a little awkward. and all the shops in Newport. It is within walking distance of Thames St.Great Place
My boyfriend and I really enjoyed are stay at The Hotel Viking.
.Old-fashioned service -
- in a big, comfortable hotel with great location.
. I would definitely go back to this hotel again. And if you are in the mood for great Italian, go to Sardellas which is just a few blocks away on Memorial Boulevard. The bus stop is just outside of the front door and public transportation is very convenient to all the mansions and other sightseeing spots. Dont waste your money on cabs. The location was just great and allowed us to walk to just about everything we cared to see. The restaurant had amazing food and the breakfast which was included with our stay was not your average continental breakfast of toast and jams. The spa was to die for; make sure you try the Milk & Honey procedure. The staff was absolutely wonderful, helpful with restaurant recommendations, public and other transportation and everything else.Prime Location; Great Hotel
I took my mother on a trip to Newport this January and we really loved the hotel.
. Perhaps the rooms in the newer part of the hotel are more conventional size.Charming
This is a very good hotel, great service, great amenities, but if you stay in the old part of the hotel the rooms are way too small, for two people and luggage there is hardly any room to move around.
Great food; fun environment; reasonably priced; friendly service! My favorite place to eat and go for drinks in all of Newport and that is saying a ot since the town has so many other great places to offer!. Im very much looking forward to staying in this hotel again in the future!

Check out Brick Alley pub. I am a big fan of he city of Newport, and this only makes me want to go back again sooner than later. The only downside to the hotel is that everything is expensive but for a special occasion, it was the perfect place. my only regret is that we were only able to stay one night. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly and we felt like royalty for the duration of our stay. We had an amazing night and the hotel was unbelievable.Great place!
I took my girl friend to The Hotel Viking for New Years Eve.
Highly recommend!.A Newport Gem!
Accommodations are comfortable, clean and of excellent value.
. The lounge was warm and inviting, altho crowded at times with revelers. The dining room catered to both adults and children.
The pool was large and family friendly. My family had a wonderful holiday at the Viking, we would recommend it and would stay here again. The hotel was decorated in perfect New England Christmas style with life-size Nutcrackers, and Christmas trees all over. The service and personnel couldnt have been better - the facilities were great (pool, exercise room, dining room, and public rooms). The perfect holiday hotel
My entire family stayed at the Viking Hotel for Christmas this yeatr - 16 adults and children in all.
. We will defintely stay at the hotel the next time we are in Newport. gorgeous rooms, and fantastic food.beautiful, classic architecture, great service...this was the hotel for us....Great get-away
We wanted just one night away to relax.

Dinner at the Cliffwalk In "Spiced pear" or Castle hill in is a delight , go early wonderful views and great cuisine.Newport Grandeur
I stayed in a newport room and it reminded me of the grandeur of this great place.
. They should find a way to warn people when they have several large events going on at once. For example, we had to wait almost 45 minutes for the valet to retrieve our car. There were two weddings going on that weekend, and the service was compromised. We were impressed with the facilities, particularly the indoor pool. Two weddings in one day!
My daughter and I went to the Hotel Viking for a relaxing weekend getaway.
. Would definitely recommend.Great experience
Staff and facility were wonderful, great location.
