Very romantic and historical hotel and surroundings.

Travelers tip on dining
Dont miss breakfast. The road from Yosemite village to the hotel is long and very winding - not recommended to drive at night. The pool was refreshing and clean. The shared bath room was fine however there is no A/C.Old fashioned but nice
This historic hotel is a nice place to stay in the park for a reasonable price.

Travelers tip on dining
Do try the green pea fritter appetizers. Dinner and breakfast buffet were the highlights. This was at the annex, so I cant speak for the main hotel building. It was noisy because we could hear the neighboring room and people walking on the porch outside -- not a lot of privacy. The wooden window would not stay open. The room was decorated with antiques, but had one outlet up high to plug the fan (yes, the fan) into.
Nice place if you want to recreate the Victorian era, but if you want mod cons, go elsewhere....Step back in time.
If you like hiking, go to the top of Yosemite Upper Falls (8h up&down)!. It might be nicer to ride the horses in Yosemite Valley, though, since the Wawona ride does not have spectacular views.

You can go horseriding for 60 USD for 2h near the Wawona hotel. Breakfast is extensive, but American (no croissants, no rolls, no cereals, mostly warm stuff). We brought earplugs and did not have problems. Since the hotel was fully booked, we were given the room next to the foyer, which is quite noisy. In May, there was one shuttle to Yosemite Valley per day and one back -- you might prefer to drive (30min). When we were there, there were always free showers, even though the hotel was fully booked. The "shared bathrooms" are shared with the entire building! That means that they are quite far, you will even have to walk outside to get there. they ask whether you want more from the breakfast buffet even if the time is long over).g. Staff is nice and friendly (e. The atmosphere is charming (fireplace and piano man in the foyer).Beautiful place to stay
The Wawona hotel is a beautiful, historic building.
. Dinner was superb. Very relaxing.Quaint and Relaxing!
Ejoyed the 1800s style and comfort.
.... The hotel was only able to refund for the cost of one night only.Be aware of the tricky weather
The pass to the hotel closed due to the bad weather the night of my check in and stay closed for next few days.
. The extra cost of getting a bathroom in your room is way too high for the benefit, in my opinion. The robes they provide are very nice. They arent far. The full complimentary breakfast was outstanding!

Dont worry about the bathrooms down the hall! It was fun. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Its fun to recreate the atmosphere of the 1800s with cocktails on the wide veranda, the paper thin walls allowing you to hear your neighbors, and your trips to the bathrooms on the back porch in the nice white robes they provide. Dont expect modern standards.Nostalgic Experience
Stay here for the nostalgia.
. I find this hotel expensive for what it offers but it was the cheaper I found in Yosemite. I think there is nothing in the surroundings so we decided to try restaurant of the hotel which is expensive for cuality. There was just one bathroom for almost eight rooms, but it was clean. The room was small and had no bathroom.Just sleeping
I had one night in this hotel.
. There is a shuttle to the valley, but it only runs once in the morning and once in the evening.
Travelers tip on local attractions
The giant sequoia grove is about 5-10 minutes away, but Yosemite Valley is almost an hour. The staff are efficient and extremely helpful. The rooms are a little cramped and the showers are tempermental, but its a small inconvenience at worst. The architecture is interesting, the meals are fantastic, and the views from the porches are spectacular.Lovely views
The hotel is in a beautiful location just inside the south entrance of the park.
. The breakfast was good though (probably the only nice thing about the place). The dinner we were served in the hotel restaurant was the worst we had in two weeks in California but by no means the cheapest. In my opinion, being charged that much for this kind of sub-standard accommodation is an outrage, and the location in the national park is not an excuse.Tiny room with no windows should not cost that much
I knew that the room was not going to have a private bathroom (had no choice at the time we booked), but I have not been told that the room was not going to have any windows (only the curtained glass in the door and a sort of a ventilation hole above the door) and that we were going to hear every little sound from the adjacent rooms bathroom (which used to be shared between the two rooms when the hotel was built).

Ask for rooms with separate bathroom!. Older/smaller rooms; however, they are within the Park.Yosemite Stay
Historic Inn includes a great breakfast.
. The accomodations were adequate for the price, and the dining was excellent.Historic Stay
The hotel was like stepping back in time.

GOOD.
. Also, remember it is a good hour to get into the central Yosemite Valley from here. No cell phone service & that would be ok if all three of on-site pay phones were not all out of order! I walked down to gas station next door to make a call.30am, not 6am. starts @ 7. friendly. Breakfast is good, well organized, wait-staff v. limited outlets, but were a couple up on a wall mounted lamp. If bringing electronic equipment, v. They get them after quizzing you extensively about how thoroughly you searched your small room. Supposed to be robes in room, but there were none in ours and I overhead other guests complaining about this. Room was not as clean as it should be, were lots of used tissues on the floor from previous occupants. You can open windows though. Ours hissed constantly (but on the + side, it did sound like a white noise generator!) and room was unbearably hot & difficult to sleep.30am, as well as at 7pm-10pm. noisily at 6. Radiators come on v. Heating system is old, you have no control over it. thin if you are adjacent to room w/ bathroom, get to hear a running commentary of next rooms bathroom activities ("Okay, get in the tub, no its not too hot, dont get water on the floor, Oh no, look at all the water on the floor, etc). But walls/doors are v. No bathroom, but not bad communal bathrooms. Not for me
Stayed for 3 nights, March.
. Then turn left and walk about 2 miles to Taft Point, and then return via the Taft Point trail to the parking lot - a loop of about 4 miles with spectacular views, which you will have almost to yourself even on the busiest of summer days. Take the hike to Sentinel Dome (about a mile), but instead of turning around & coming back, keep walking downhill until you cross the Pohono trail.
Travelers tip on recreational activities
If youre looking for a great afternoon hike, drive up Glacier Point road to the Sentinel Dome parking lot. Highly recommended -- BUT, based on our experience with a room without a bath a few years ago, we highly recommend the extra cost of a room with a bath. Dinner was moderately priced (about $25 for most dishes) -- the food is good, not exceptional, but the atmosphere is hard to beat. We spent much of the evening sitting by the fire reading & enjoying the company of friendly strangers. The staff was very friendly & helpful. No TV, but if youre visiting Yosemite who cares whats on HBO. The room was small, but adequate, nicely decorated and clean with a small bath. Cant beat the location. We had a Great Time
This is a beautiful old hotel.
Small room and no facility in room
hotel room doesnt have facilities like coffee maker or microwave.
Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stay
Ask for a veranda room with a private bath - not all rooms have them!. Hotel meals were great and there was always a fire in the fireplace in the evening.A real peaceful getaway - well go back!
Close enough to Yosemite valley & Mariposa Grove that there was always something to do.
. You should also remember that it is something like 35 miles from Yosemite Valley, and it takes more than an hour to drive to the Valley, given the curvy road, etc. However, it is just a few miles from the south entrance to Yosemite, and there are many competing options, such as the Tenaya (which is more modern and luxurious, but also more money). If you dont mind the lack of modern amenities, and want to stay in the park, this could be a good option, and is fairly reasonably priced. The hotel restaurant was good, and a very generous buffet breakfast was included in the price I paid. There was often only one person at the front desk. The staff was very nice, but was sometimes in short supply. It was functional, but could be difficult for some people to climb in and out of. The bathroom (I had a room with bath - many rooms share a bath) was also quite old fashioned, with a clawfoot tub-shower. There was no way to turn it off or down, so the room got warmer than I would have liked. The room I was was heated by a noisy radiator. I believe that it also lacks air conditioning, which could be an issue in summer.). It has a lot of charm, and is a pretty setting (jst a few miles from the Mariposa Grove) but lacks many amenities that many of us now expect (phones in rooms, tv, Internet access, etc.
The Wawona is a Vicorian era hotel, with several outbuildings of a comparable vintage. The hotel has a lot of rustic charm, but lacks many modern amenities.
. Or as I sad try to get room in main building.
Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stay
If you are bigger group take one room with and another one without shower and you can split the cost. So if youll get good deal that means good price and also room in the building with bathrooms its probably good choice since from what I know( from my research) there isnt too many not expensive places in Yosemite national park. The hotel is bed and breakfast(It isnt advertise very well), which was very nice since there is nothing else close by, and after I discover that you can actually shower in other bathroom in next building (much nicer, cleaner and warmer) I would stay whole week (we stay 3 nights). First I wanted to cry when I saw our bathroom but in the end I realize that it wasnt so bad.If youll get good deal
We recently stay at wawoma hotel, we had room without a bathroom and I must say I had mix feeling about it.

Its in Yosemite National Park. Minus - very small rooms, most are shared baths, evening cocktail service but no bar.Old hotel - plus and minus
Plus - In the Sierra mountains, old architecture, beautiful lobby and restaurant, gorgeous grounds, nice golf course.
