Reviews

. I love to walk but people who don’t can either take a cab or trolley to the park as it is about 1 mile from hotel to Petco Park. The area was alive with nightclubs and great food. The restaurants were close to both park and hotel. I could walk to and from the game and felt safe in the Gas Light District with lots of people coming and going. Travelers tip on nightlife I came to watch the Rockies play the Padres for 2 night game. They all took the time to make me feel special. I was greeted everytime I entered and helped with doors and elevators.Very elegant look and feel and great staff! This hotel was very welcoming and accommodating.

. Great city. I was too busy enjoying the city, I did not notice any inperfections. Just your ordinary workers with uniforms. The staff at the hotel were okay, nothing to write home about. Although the mall is expensive (no great deals), it was greating having that shopping option close by. There are several reasonable priced eateries in the near walking vicinity. The hotel is situated in the middle of everything. I was concerned that there were no microwave and no refrigerator in rooms, but we did not miss these conveniences. We each had our separate room, the set-up was perfect with the adjourning rooms. This was a great hotel and a prefect room set-up.Great Hotel My mother and I vacationed at the Westgate Sep 20-24, 2009.

.tasty drinks as well... Jimmy Love’s had a great R&B band on a Sunday night. It’s much cheaper to barhop on a weeknight. Travelers tip on nightlife Most of the bars in Gaslamp charge a cover on the weekends, even if they have no band. Parking is expensive at $28 a day, but I expected it. Staff was very helpful. Decor will remind you of your grandma’s guest room, but I didn’t mind it. Rooms are spacious and quiet.an easy walk..Cozy hotel, great location Hotel is a few blocks from gaslamp.

Travelers tip on dining Great location to get to the Gaslamp Quarter and my favorite San Diego restaurant The Yardhouse. I have already recommended the hotel to a number of friends and I would stay there again. Great hotel, immaculately kept with a friendly and helpful staff.Very impressed with Westgate Hotel Went to San Diego for a business trade show and was very impressed with my stay at the Westgate Hotel.

. Would definately return here. The gym was awesome! The only thing missing was a pool.. The hotel was in walking distance to so many things- the convention center, mall, gaslamp district, etc. We were on the 16th floor & had a nice view of the bay & the city. The staff were all helpful and friendly.Would go back here! This hotel was very beautiful & clean.

. Nice little lounge too. Only ate breakfast at the hotel, but the food was outstanding, along with the service. Transportation is just around the corner. Nice location in the Gas Lamp District.Art Deco Elegance Reminds one of an exquisite 1930’s First Class hotel.

. Thank you for such a wonderful experience. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful.Full of Personality My stay at the Westgate hotel was excellent.

. Would reccomend it to anybody travelling to San Diego. It’s close to all the convenient places; restaurants, public transportation, banks, courts; name it! The staff very friendly and helpful; rooms cozy, but some improvements needed to upgrade things like their telephones and gadgets and appliances(eg TV’s irons etc)! Travelers tip on getting the most out of your stay Was not a bad deal.Would go back anytime! Liked the location of the hotel.

. out by the airport has the best grilled fish you will ever have. The Blue Water Grill on India St. Little Italy is a must visit great restaurants. Sea World is expensive but worth the price. Travelers tip on local attractions The San Diego Zoo is over rated and very costly. Great weekend rates. no mini bar in the room. Room was spotless. Short walk to great restaurants. one block from Horton Plaza. Front desk staff very helpful. .00 per day.Great location, luxury hotel, very competent staff parking costs $28.

. Enjoyed the tall ships tour at the waterfront. (which is better than no water pressure!) Travelers tip on local attractions Great eating establishments within walking distance. My only complaint would be that the water pressure was really hard in the shower. It was nice having coffee free in the morning. The room was large and spotless. The service at this hotel was impecable.Excellent hotel I have traveled all over the world and consider myself very picky.

. we loved our stay. a beautiful decorated hotel and the little touches really makes you feel special.Quaint hotel great service.

.If we didnt have other plans I would have went every day!!! Don’t bother going to Dicks Last Resort, overpriced lousy food... The swordfish tacos were insaine!! they have happy hour from 4-6 m-f, $4 apps. Travelers tip on dining I know it sounds funny, but when you go to take a harbor tour or go to coranodo, there is a little place to eat where the boats leave from. I would never think of going anywhere else when we get back to San Diego. When I found out that there was not one, the awesome girl at the front desk had maitanence bring up a mini fridge!!!! That is above and beyond great hotel service. Also, I thought that there was a fridge in the room, great for the babies food.looked like it had not been used before.. It was a perfect porta crib already set up for us. When we arrived, we had requested a crib for the baby.PERFECT.... Easy check in, great bell hops, huge room, very friendly staff, great cost. We could not have asked for anything more.AWESOME!!!! BEST IN SAN DIEGO!!!! My wife and I and our 8 month old stayed here for 7 days in August.

. requires either taxi or car. Gaslamp District is within walking distance but Seaworld, Zoo, Coronado Beach, etc. If you are vacationing I would suggest you have a car to get around to all the places you’ll want to visit. We were not there on the weekend so we missed out on that experience; however, we enjoyed everything else about our stay and there are some nice up-scale restaurants within walking distance. My only disapointment was that the french restaurant is no longer used except for Sunday brunch. The bed was extreemly confortable. We were on the 17th floor and had a beautiful view of the skyline with the bay in the distance. The room was excellent and beautiful. Beautiful lobby area and extremely helpful and willing staff.Very Impressed Very nice hotel.

. We had a very pleasant stay. It’s an easy walk to the gaslamp restaurants.Beautiful hotel The decor in the lobby is lovely - with chandeliers, tapestries, victorian, but comfy furniture, pianos, etc; the concierges were polite and informative; and the room/bed comfortable.

. Great food from these Chicago transplants. For a unique breakfast, walk to Richard Walker’s Pancake House and try the huge "baked" German Pancake served with lemon and powdered sugar or the Garden Pancake (?) which is almost like a cross between a quiche and a pancake. Travelers tip on dining For good quality but extremely inexpensive sushi in a restaurant setting go to the Sushi Deli - arrive early to avoid the lines. We will definitely stay here again the next time we are in San Diego. Our only complaints were: 1) that the mini bar wasn’t stocked but what was in there was FREE (no complaint there) but one day we came back expecting to drink a soda that had been in there only to find that it had disappeared; 2) when we asked the extremely friendly check-in person how much money would be authorized on the credit card for our 10 night stay, so we could choose an appropriate card, he told us "about $30" but we found out later (the hard way) that $500 had been authorized, 3) they were a little erratic when it came to chocolates on the pillow - some nights there were two, some nights there was one (if only all of life’s problems could be so small and inconsequential!). The staff was friendly and efficient - especially at the front desk and in the lobby. The hotel was right near a trolley stop and was within walking distance of everything downtown including the nearby Gaslamp District, the Convention Center, the Seaport, and shopping. We had a small balcony in the room with a view of the city. We loved the turn-down service and having our robes laid out for us each night.EXCELLENT VALUE AT TOP END HOTEL! This was a high class hotel at very reasonable prices right in the heart of San Diego.

. Busters Beach House is overrated. The Seal is an awesome tour of the area. ROck Bottom Brewery, and Karl Strauss Brewery have great food and great beer. is much hotter than the downtown area. Wild Animal Park is almost an hour drive away and the temp. Travelers tip on local attractions Kayaking the caves in La Jolla was amazing. Most of the other attractions are within walking distance, or cheaper to take the Metro, a Trolley, or the Ferry. Parking is $30 a night, so you would be better off just renting a car on a daily basis if you want to go up to La Jolla, or the Wild Animal Park. If you stay at this hotel, you are on the same corner as a stop for the Metro, accross the street from a stop for the Old Town Trolley, and close enough to walk to many places.Great Location, No need for a rental car.

. Location in downtown was very convenient to the convention center. The staff was consistently friendly and helpful, including front desk, valet, the housekeeping staff. Monday-Friday high tea served in the lobby midafternoon and I witnessed a dozen girls having what looked like a bridal shower type tea on a weekend, complete with harpist. Free wireless in the room. The bathroom was nice and modern and I really liked the non rectangular powder room attached to the bathroom. I enjoyed the old school feel to the furnishings, door handles and drapes-- retro without being worn down.Vintage fun but not stuffy The bedroom had high square footage and a wall of windows for great light.

. The hotel was a very comfortable stay and despite the minor maintenance problems, I shall return. Maintenance came to the room immediately to try to fix the problem but failed each time. I had to shower in standing water, very gross. I had to call for plumbing 3 times on my 5-day stay. My major complaint was the plumbing in the shower.A comfortable stay The stay was enjoyable.

. Staff is friendly and the concierge is a font of knowledge. It’s centrally located, with easy access to the Gaslamp, waterfront and freeways. Clean, well-maintained and quiet.Terrific Place To Stay The Westgate is certainly elegant, but not in a stuffy way.

If you want to make you partner happy stay here great place!.Great place Me and My fiance stayed here for only two nights and we both were blown away by not only the cleanliness of everything but how friendly the staff was.

Travelers tip on shopping Excellent shopping and dining at Horton Plaza which is only 1 block away and great dining options very close by, too!. Absolutely no complaints. I didn’t get a chance to check out all the amenities, however I could not have asked for a nicer room. Outstanding service by all who worked there. The room itself is outstanding and could easily be considered a 5-star. I initially booked it because it is right across the street from the Civic Center but was pleasantly surprised when I got there.Excellent Stay!! Will Definitely Go Back!! I can honestly say that this is one of the nicest hotels I have ever stayed at.

. Overall, our stay was very enjoyable and would recommend to others. If the view is the most important to you, stay somewhere else. Our room was on a high floor facing south, the view was nice but nothing special, the best view would be on the side facing the convention center (west I think). Room was very large and quite clean. Doormen and bellmen were very friendly to us. Front desk Staff was courteous and helpful when approached but didn’t go out of their way for you at all. Lobby is small compared to some megahotels but has a very elegant and classy appeal.Elegant and clean hotel We enjoyed our stay during June, 2009 at this older but very comfortable and clean Hotel.

. Call for directions to the parking garage before you arrive. The Sunday brunch was a special treat. The staff goes out of their way to make your stay exceptional. The location is fabulous, close to everything. The Best Hotel in San Diego! This is the nicest hotel I have stayed at in San Diego.

. Overall, a very pleasant stay. Within walking distance of the Gaslamp district. Again, didn’t feel modern, but felt clean. I asked for a room with a view and they upgraded me to a fairly large room (about the size of the Wynn Tower in Vegas) on the 15th floor. All the staff were very accomodating (it felt like I was the only guest). My conference hotel was booked-up, this place felt deserted, which was fine by me.Quiet hotel, accomodating service Nice old-school hotel (chandeliers in lobby, heavy drapes in room).
